6.2. Attention / Contraindications
There may be a risk of ignition of gases when the instrument is used in the presence of
combustible mixtures or mixtures of pharmaceuticals. The product and the ear funnels are
non-sterile. Do not use on injured tissue. Use new or disinfected ear funnels to limit the
risk of cross-contamination. Disposal of used ear funnels must be done in accordance with
current medical practices or local regulations regarding the disposal of infectious, biological
medical waste. Use only accessories / consumables from Riester or Riester approved
accessories / consumables. Cleaning frequency and flow must comply with the regulations
for the cleaning of non-sterile products in the respective facility. Cleaning and disinfection
instructions of the instructions for use must be observed. The product may only be used by
trained personnel.
6.3. Attaching and removing ear specula
To equip the otoscope head, single-use ear specula from Riester (in black), or alternatively
reusable ear specula from Riester (in black) can be selected. The size of the ear speculum is
indicated at the back of the speculum. The specula from Welch Allyn can also be used.
L1 and L2 specula
Turn the speculum clockwise until you can feel a resistance. To remove the speculum, twist
off the speculum by turning it counterclockwise.
L3 speculum
Fit the selected speculum onto the chrome-plated metal holder of the otoscope until you can
feel it snap into place. To remove the speculum, press the blue eject button. The speculum is
ejected automatically.
6.4. Focusing wheel
The focusing wheel enables you to adjust the focusing range in the auditory canal (tympanic
membrane). Thanks to the high-quality lens system, you have 5.5-fold magnification and a
field of view with a diameter of 11 mm at a distance of approx. 20mm.
6.5. Pneumatic test
In order to be able to perform the pneumatic test (= an examination of the tympanic mem-
brane), you need a ball which is not included in the normal scope of delivery, but which can
be additionally ordered. The tube of the ball is fitted to the connection. You can then carefully
introduce the required amount of air into the auditory canal.

6.7. Replacing the lamp
6.8. EliteVue
Twist off the instrument head from the battery handle. The lamp is located in the lower part
of the instrument head. Withdraw the lamp from the instrument head with your thumb and
index finger or with a suitable tool. Firmly fit the new lamp in place.
7. Instructions for care
7.1. General information
Cleaning and disinfection of the medical devices serves to protect the patient, the user and
third parties and to preserve the value of the medical devices. Due to the product design and
the materials used, no defined limit can be specified for the maximum number of repro-
cessing cycles that can be carried out. The life span of the medical devices is determined by
their function and by gentle handling of the devices. Defective products must undergo the
reprocessing procedure described before being returned for repair.
7.2. Cleaning and disinfection
The instrument head with handle can be cleaned externally with a moist cloth until visually
clean. Wipe-disinfection as specified by the disinfectant manufacturer. Only disinfectants
with proven efficacy should be used, taking into account the national requirements. After
disinfection, wipe the instrument down with a moist cloth to remove possible disinfectant
residues.
CAUTION!

Never immerse the instrument head with handle in any liquid! Take care to ensure that
no liquids get inside the casing!

This item is not approved for automated reprocessing and sterilization. These
procedures cause irreparable damage!
7.3. Sterilization
a) Reusable ear specula
The ear specula can be sterilized in the steam sterilizer at 134°C with 10 minutes hold time.
b) Single-use ear specula
For single use only
Warning: Repeated use can cause infection.

7.5. Maintenance
The instruments and their accessories do not require any special maintenance. If the case
should arise that an instrument needs to be checked for whatever reason, please send it to

let you know upon request.
