the traction direction (not angularly), the joint will be easily loosened
in most cases.
Two adapters are available for each slide hammer. One adapter
with external thread M 16 x 2.0 for all the traction rings and one
adapter with internal thread M 16 x 2.0 for both tie rods (VAG).
Fig. 21/22
The adapters are used to connect the corresponding thread adapter
on the end of the joint to a suitable slide hammer (not supplied).
The internal thread of the M 18 x 1.5 support adapts to numerous
slide hammers available on the market. For the use described in
this manual, slide hammers weighing 1 to 3 kg are sufficient. (e.g.:

All tools are suitable to be used both assembled and disassembled.
Their use in the clamp is described below to help the user
understand how they work.
Preparation: lock the CV joint's shaft in the clamp, loosen the
sleeve's clamp and push it back a little.
1. Screw the corresponding threaded adapter onto the end of the
CV joint. Fig. 24/25
2. Screw one of the two suitable connection adapters into the
threaded adapter Fig. 26/27
3. Connect the slide hammer directly to the connection adapter
according to the sliding rod's thread or, as in the case
illustrated, with the help of an adapter. Fig. 28/29/30/31
4. After assembly, in most cases it is sufficient to withstand the
thrust and at the same time strike the slide hammer in the
opposite direction. If the joint is very blocked, it may be
necessary to remove the shaft and secure it inside a clamp. Fig.

Removal of the wheel hubs with a slide hammer (not
included)
In combination with a suitable slide hammer (not supplied) it is also
possible to remove the wheel hubs.
1. Follow steps 1 to 6 as described in paragraph "Mechanical
removal of the CV joint".
2. Screw the sliding rod of the slide hammer into the bell thread.

Warning: due to the enormous impact forces, the
thread must be screwed all the way!
