Install the Inlet camshaft sprocket and replace
the sprocket bolts with new ones. Counter-hold
the sprockets and tighten bolts to
- 50 Nm. Inlet and Exhaust – code AXU, BKG,
BLN
- 40Nm. Inlet / 50Nm. Exhaust – codes BAG,
BLF, BLP
Turn the camshafts until HAZET 2588-19 Setting
Tool can be inserted in to the two holes in the
rear of the camshafts. Secure with a M6 bolt.
Counter-hold the sprockets and slacken the
camshaft sprocket bolts.
ATTENTION:
Do NOT use HAZET 2588-19 Setting Tool
as a counter-hold tool.
Remove a camshaft sprocket in order to
install the timing chain and fit sprockets and
chain.
Tighten sprocket bolts finger-tight only.
Tension the timing chain by removing the
HAZET 2588-10 Pin from the tensioner.
Turn the crankshaft in direction of engine
rotation and using HAZET 3688-10 and DTI,
establish TDC at No.1 cylinder.
CAUTION:
Whilst establishing TDC on these
engines the crankshaft
be turned or be allowed to move more
than 0.01mm. passed TDC position.
If this occurs, turn the crankshaft backwards
(against direction of rotation), approx. 45° and
then forward again, in the direction of rotation,
to TDC No.1 cylinder position.
Counter-hold the sprockets and tighten the
camshaft sprocket bolts to
- 50 Nm. Inlet and Exhaust – code AXU, BKG,
BLN
- 40Nm. Inlet / 50Nm. Exhaust – codes BAG,
BLF, BLP
ATTENTION:
When tightening bolts the crankshaft
MUST NOT be allowed to turn and the
timing chain should remain tensioned
on both sides.
Remove all tools, turn the engine over, by hand,
two times, and re-fit tools checking they can be
inserted correctly.
Counter-hold the sprockets using a Sprocket
Holding Tool, and tighten camshaft sprocket
bolts a further 90° ensuring that the sprockets
do not turn on the camshafts.

3 Composition and Function
MUST NOT
Maintenance work on engines must be carried out only
by experienced mechanics. Always wear personal protective equipment.
4.2 DIESEL ENGINES
Pumpe Düse (Unit Injection) Diesel engines
–New Tools to cover the following engine
updates on some 1.9TDi and 2.0TDi Pumpe
Düse Diesel Engines:-
ê
Use HAZET 2588-110 Crankshaft Locking
Tool and HAZET 2588-17 and 2588-18 Belt
Tensioner Tools.
For model usage / engine codes refer to
ê
Application Chart, page 6.
HAZET 2588-110 - New Crankshaft Locking
Tool to cover a "Gradual Introduction" of an
"OVAL" Crankshaft Gear.
HAZET 2588-17 and 2588-18 – New Belt
Tensioning Tools required for access to the
tensioner by the introduction of Larger Engine
Mountings.
These New Timing Tools must be used in
conjunction with the existing timing tools in
HAZET Kit Ref; 2588/19 in order to cover the
complete timing belt replacement/engine timing
application on Pumpe Düse engines.
Refer to the Operating Instructions provided
with Kit 2588/19 in association with the
additional information provided for use of these
new tools.
ATTENTION:
INFORMATION FOR TOOL
SELECTION
Since their introduction in 1999 Pumpe
Düse diesel engines have undergone a number
of changes some of which dictate which timing
tools must be used. These modifications have
not necessarily resulted in a change of engine
coding and therefore it is very important that a
carefully check of the following engine features
are made to ensure the correct timing tools are
being used.
Figure 9 , Page 5
CAUTION:
CRANKSHAFT LOCKING:- Check if a
Round or an Oval Crankshaft Gear is
fitted.
Original crankshaft gears are ROUND
Use HAZET 2588-1 (Black) from Hazet Timing
