7 Service and maintenance
7.1 Lift
The lift is used for vertical transport of the firing chamber. The unit is driven by a geared motor. If there is a power failure, the firing chamber
can be lifted upwards by hand in order to remove the work pieces. Apply vigorous pressure downwards to move the firing chamber
downwards by hand.
Caution! Do not change the setting of the belt tension screw. A too strong belt setting may cause overload of the lift drive, thus
damaging the unit.
7.2 Firing socket/pressing socket and Firing socket carrier
The firing platform carrier is mounted vertically resilient on the top of the furnace subsection. The O-ring in the firing socket
carrier seals the firing chamber during vacuum firing. Depending on whether the unit fires or presses, the firing socket or the pressing socket is
placed on the firing socket carrier. Both firing and pressing socket insulate the firing chamber against downward temperature loss and are also
used as object carrier.
Maintenance note: The O-ring of the firing socket carrier must be kept clean and should be occasionally checked for damage.
Caution! In order to prevent damage to the firing socket carrier and the O-ring seal, either the firing socket or the pressing socket must be
placed on the firing socket carrier.
7.3 Vakuumpumpe
We recommend operating the Multimat 2 Touch with the highperformance Dentsply vacuum pump.
However, the Multimat2 Touch can be operated with any highperformance vacuum pump with grounded plug connector
(power uptake max. 2.5 A) that has a liter performance of at least 30 l/min and a final pressure of 30 hPa. Connecting the pump is
described in section 3 "Setup and first operation". The pump connection tube must not be longer than 2 meters
Maintenance note: Observe the operating manual of the pump for maintenance purposes.
Important: Vacuum pumps with oil lubrication must have an oil change every 3 months.
7.4 Changing the firing muffle
1
Caution!
This product contains ceramic fibers, and can release fiber dusts. Fiber dusts have proven to be carcinogenic in animal
experiments. Observe EC safety data sheet.
The heat insulation of the firing chamber in the Multimat2 Touch consists of ceramic fibers. After extended use of ceramic fibers at tempera-
tures above 900 °C (1652 °F), silicone type substances (cristobalite) may be generated. In certain cases, e.g. when replacing the firing muffle,
dust exposure may occur, which may cause irritation of the skin, eyes, and respiratory organs.
Proceed as follows when replacing the firing muffle:
•
All personnel must wear long sleeved clothing, headwear, eye protection and gloves.
•
Attach dust exhaustion to the dust source; if not possible, equip personnel with dust mask FFP3 or similar.
•
After completion of the tasks, possible adhering dust must be first washed off the unprotected skin. Afterwards wash with warm
water and soap.
•
Wash working clothes separately.

Warning!
Disconnect the Multimat Touch from main power before opening the housing.
