All straps on the orthosis are opened.
1) Pass the thigh and calf pads around the leg and fasten them with the hook-and-loop closures
at the front of the leg (see fig. 3).
2) Position the lateral orthotic joint at the height of the middle of the patella and secure it to the
pad with the hook strap on the back of the splint (see fig. 4).
3) Repeat for the medial orthotic joint. CAUTION! Adjust the orthosis so the splints are par
allel to each other and the medial and lateral orthotic joints are at the same height.
4) Pass the straps through the strap guide loops. Close the straps first below and then above
the patella (see fig. 5). Make sure that the hook-and-loop sections are placed over one anoth
er.
→ The orthosis should fit firmly but is still comfortable to wear.
5.4 Trial fitting
► Check that the orthosis is fitted properly on the leg before handing over to the patient.
► Position the orthosis on the leg in such a way that the orthotic joints are aligned at the height
of the middle of the patella; alternatively, adjust them in the compromise pivot point according
to Nietert.
5.5 Removal
► To take off the orthosis, open the straps and pads without taking off the splints. This prevents
ongoing readjustment.
