PRELIMINARY CHECKS

Before fi tting the operator, check the condition of the garage
door as regards the following points
Limited roller (fi g.7 - 1) play in the vertical guides.
Good condition of the guides (fi g.7 - 2): check that they do
not interfere with smooth sliding of the rollers.
Check that the up-and-over door is perfectly vertical
when closed.
Check the sturdiness of the door panel; lifting it from a
side corner: it should not buckle.
Check the thickness of the frame (fi g.7 - 3) to determine
whether it is possible to weld the supports (fi g.7 - 4) directly
on to the frame or whether this needs reinforcement.
Check that the frame is in good condition and that there
is no oxidation in the roller support (fi g.7 - 1) and arm
support (fi g.7 - 5) points.
Check that the door panel can be smoothly opened and
closed manually without effort.
Check that the door panel does not go beyond the limit
switch.
Check that there is space at the sides for straight
telescopic arms (otherwise order curved ones).
Warning
Any defects on the door or frame must be eliminated
before fi tting the EM 51 operator.
The installation of the operator and its drive
accessories increases the weight of the garage door
panel; it is therefore necessary to balance it again,
once the operator has been fi tted. If just one operator
is used, increase the counterweights by (fi g.8 - 6)
3-4 kg on each side (fi g.8 - 7), if two operators are
used, the counterweights must be increased by 7
÷ 8 kg on each side. If springs are fitted instead
of counterweights, it is necessary to increase the
tension of these to counterbalance the increased
weight or contact the door manufacturer to fi t other
springs.
4.3

SELECTING SAFETY DEVICES

The system should be installed in conformity with the existing laws for electrical devices and accident prevention.
If it is necessary to adjust the moving power of the operator to values higher than 150N, measured on the lower profi le
of the door, to overcome the mechanical resistance of the up-and-over door, it is necessary to add safety devices
such as barriers and/or photocells.
Direct the end user's attention to the way in which the up-and-over door functions, recommend that the mechanism should
always be used it is in full view to avoid the door knocking against anybody or anything during its movement.
