IV. WHEELCHAIR USE & CONFIGURATION
V. Wheel Locks
WARNING: Underinflated or worn tires may cause your wheel locks to not function
properly. Failure of the wheel locks to hold your chair could cause a loss of control or fall
resulting in serious injury or death.
Wheel locks are not to be used as brakes to slow or stop your wheelchair. Using a
wheel lock as a brake could cause loss of control or a fall resulting in serious injury
or death.
How to Adjust Your Wheel Locks
NOTE: Always loosen and tighten wheel hardware by alternating between the two bolts
while loosening/tightening a little at a time. This prevents overclamping on one set of
hardware which leads to binding of the fasteners and increased difficulty in removal.
1. For a standard axle plate, use a 10mm wrench or socket to loosen (do not remove) the hex
bolt (Fig. 35:F). For a self-propel axle plate, use a 5mm Allen wrench to loosen the socket
head cap screw (Fig. 36).
2. Slide the mount (Fig. 35:J) foward or rearward to achieve proper locking.
3. The screw may be completely removed and the slide nut (Fig. 35:G) can be mounted in
alternate holes (A & B or B & C) to optimize the adjustment range. It is recommended that the
threaded hole of the slide nut is positioned in either hole A or B.
3. Retighten the bolt. Repeat for opposite side of chair.
How to Reverse the Wheel Lock Mount (Standard Axle Plate Only)
1. Use a 10mm wrench or socket to remove the hex bolt (Fig. 35:F) and remove the wheel lock
assembly from the chair.
2. Use a 10mm wrench or socket to remove the nuts and washers (Fig. 35:H) from the wheel
lock studs and remove the wheel lock (Fig. 35:I) from the mount.
3. Flip the mount around and reassemble the wheel lock to mount back onto the chair. The
wheel lock may be installed in either hole D or E to position the wheel lock for optimum
effectiveness.
4. Reinstall the wheel lock onto the side frame and into the slide nut (Fig. 35:G). The slide nut
can be positioned in holes A & B or C & D to optimize the adjustment range. It is
recommended that the threaded hole of the slide is positioned in either hole A or B.
5. See the Adjustment section above for the wheel lock adjustment procedure.
6. Repeat steps on opposite side of the chair. Ensure the wheel lock is in the same orientation
on both sides of the chair.

Wheel Lock Operation
1. Wheel lock operation is based on the lock style your chair is equipped with. Engagement of
the wheel lock bar to tire is done by pushing or pulling on the wheel lock handle to fully
engage wheel lock bar to tire (Fig. 36).
2. To disengage wheel lock move in opposite direction.
