Using the IPM-400 as a Source (cont'd)
Calibrate Frequency Inputs
Display: kHz, Hz, CPM
This function provides pulses into frequency measuring instruments. The meter output is a
zero crossing square wave from –1 V to 5 V amplitude. Available ranges are from 0.01 kHz to
15.00 kHz, 1 Hz to 1500 Hz and from 1 CPM to 1500 counts per minute (CPM). CPM is used
to simulate extremely slow frequency signals with greater resolution. For example, 10 Hz is
equivalent to 600 CPM. To convert from CPM to Hz, divide by 60. To convert from Hz to CPM,
multiply by 60.
1.
Turn the Selector knob to FREQ.
2.
Connect the black and red leads to the meter as shown.
3.
Repeatedly press the DISPLAY/SOURCE/READ button until "SOURCE" appears on the
display.
4.
Press the TYPE/ENG UNITS button to select the desired function.
5.
Disconnect one or both input wires from the device being calibrated.
6.
Connect the red lead of the meter to the plus (+) input of the device and the black lead to
the minus (–).
7.
With the toggle switch at SET, adjust the output to the desired value.
8.
Flip the toggle switch to HI or LO to use the stored values. See the Storing Output Values
section to change the stored values.
