Using the IPM-400
Field and Bench Use
The IPM-400 comes with a carrying case and a built-in tilt stand and hanger. The carrying case
has a belt loop, which can be looped around a pipe or rail. The tilt stand is easily raised by
pulling the stand until it locks into place. To reverse the stand for use as a hanger, grasp the
stand near where it attaches to the meter, gently spread the stand outward, and lift it out. Turn
the stand over and insert the ends back into the holes.
Turning the IPM-400 On and Off
To turn the meter on or off, press and release the POWER button. Each time you turn the
IPM-400 on, it runs through a self-test and then displays the most recently selected Source or
Read setting. The meter automatically shuts itself off after 30 minutes of inactivity. This feature
can be disabled. See Returning to the Default Settings.
Connections
• Connect leads so that they correspond to the intended calibration or measurement.
• Do not change the measurement function or range while the test leads are
connected to a component or circuit.
Failure to observe this precaution can result in injury and can damage the unit.
A quick reference guide is located on the back of the meter and on the tilt stand on the
protective boot. For more specific instructions, follow the steps in Using the IPM-400 as a
Source, Using the IPM-400 to Read, and Using the IPM-400 to Source and Read.
