WARNINGS
Purpose of the unit
The podiatry unit is intended for professional podiatrists as an aid to in-surgery operations that concern ailments of the
foot and their treatment.
These units have been designed and constructed for use with patients of all ages.
Never the podiatry unit may be used in the presence of flammable anesthetic gas mixtures. Stern Podia units are not
sterile devices.
The compartment with the "U.V." germicide lamp is not a sterilizing device.
When treating patients with pacemakers or similar devices the operator must take the necessary precautions: refer to
the specific literature on the matter.
Do not exceed the loads indicated in the "technical characteristics" section. Do not place any additional loads on or
plug any device to the instrument console or to the lamp.
Do not remove the labels on any unit/chair devices. Should these deteriorate replace them.
The device is not intended to be used in emergency rooms or operating theaters.
Power supply
Make sure that the unit/chair electrical power supply is powered via an external differential cut-out switch with a 16A
current-carrying capacity and a 10mA trip threshold.
Make sure that unit power supplies are separate.
Make sure that the podiatry unit power supply is fitted with an efficient grounding (earth)system and that wiring
complies with the standards in force.
Make sure that the compressed air feed line has an external close-off valve.
Make sure that the air hoses are bled carefully and thoroughly before connecting to the podiatry unit.
Climate
Under extreme conditions (heat, cold, humidity) it is advisable to let a few hours pass between unpacking the
equipment and using it for the first time. This precaution provides the time needed to eliminate any condensation that
may have formed inside the packaging.
Precautions
The unit needs special precautions regarding EMC and needs to be installed and put into service according to the
EMC information contained herein.
The portable devices may affect the operation of the device.
Use only accessories that are specified in this document in order to ensure the maintenance of the EMC performance
of the device.
Do not use together with other nearby devices to avoid mutual interference.
Attention: the connection of the electrical power strip leads to the creation of a SYSTEM EM, and this situation may
result in a reduced level of security. About the requirements applicable to a EM SYSTEM, the ORGANIZATION
RESPONSIBLE must refer to this standard.
The unit must be connected to an external air supply, whose characteristics are given in the Technical Specifications
section. For the insertion of the tube (according to DIN 74324 specifies 8X1 PA11 PHL) a quick connector of 6x8 is
provided.
These operations must be carried out by technicians with appropriate knowledge of the device.
For the extraction, there are no special requirements.
To preserve the condition of the buffer battery present in the unit, make sure that it does not remain disconnected from
the power supply for longer than three months.
The battery replacement should be carried out by technicians with appropriate knowledge of the device.
Upon request S.M.D. provides circuit diagrams, spare parts list, descriptions, calibration instructions or other
information to assist the technical support personnel during installation or repair.
Should you find any fissures or cracks on the power cord or should it be partly cut off, get SMD qualified service
personnel to change it.
S.M.D. cannot be held liable for any damages deriving from failure to observe the warnings and instructions
contained in this handbook.
