The green Guard cable (GUARD) will not be always used.
Application Note 32 explains the usage of Guard terminal for
minimising the parasite resistance effect, whose influence one
intends to minimise. If the measurement is performed between two
parts, which are not grounded (for example: a transformer high and
low voltage windings), the equipment Guard terminal will be
grounded for defining the instrument potential. Whenever a
measurement is performed, the +R or the Guard terminal will be
grounded, but not both simultaneously. If none of these terminals are
grounded, the insulation tester can be subjected to a higher potential,
hazardous to the operator and the reading can result unstable and
unreliable. If both terminals are simultaneously grounded, they will be
short-circuited and the insulation tester will not perform the
measurement.

Press W key and select the test voltage (YZab). If you

want a test voltage between 100 V and 1000 V, press N or O
key.
If the key W is pressed again the voltage test selected will be hold,

but it is not necessary.
