Calibration
8.5.2 Performing a zero calibration
Calibration can be aborted at any time. To abort calibration
select back.
Prerequisites:
– Sensor has finished the warm-up phase
– Calibration is prepared.
Calibrate the zero-point as follows:
1. Select Calibration > Zero calibration and confirm.
 The maintenance signal is transmitted via the analog
interface. No alarms or fault relays are activated and
the
symbol is displayed.
 The message Apply zero gas is displayed.
2. Apply Synthetic Air or Nitrogen if ambient air cannot be
used.
a. Set the gas flow corresponding to the sensor used
(see "Gas flow for adjustments", page 22)
3. Select Next and confirm.
 The current value is displayed.
After 15 minutes without confirmation, the instrument
reverts to the calibration menu without performing a
calibration.
After the test gas has been applied to the sensor for 3
minutes and the displayed value is stable perform
calibration.
4. Select calibrate and confirm.
 The message please wait... is displayed.
 The new current value is displayed.
5. Select Next and confirm.
6. Turn off the gas flow and remove the calibration adapter
from the sensor or disconnect the hose.
If the current value is not within the alarm range:
7. Select Next and confirm.
 The instrument returns to the calibration menu.

Span calibration
8.6.1 General information
®
Polytron
8310 IR-specific:
Due to the design of the DSIR gas sensor, the output signal of
the gas sensor is limited to 45 %. . . 55 % of the internal
supply voltage. If the gas concentrations increase further after
the maximum sensor output signal has been reached, this
does not lead to an increase of the values displayed on the
instrument response transmitted to the central device. In case
of substances with particularly low calibration factors and/or
manual configuration of a high span calibration factor at the
sensor, this may already happen at concentrations below 100
%LEL. For substitute gas calibrations, correct triggering of the
alarm should therefore be checked with a test gas
concentration corresponding to the alarm threshold. If
necessary, the measuring range that can be displayed can be
increased by reducing the sensor output signal as required
24
with subsequent calibration on the instrument (see chapter
"Manual span calibration of the output signal" in the
instructions for use of the DSIR gas sensor).
8.6.2 Performing a span adjustment
Calibration can be aborted at any time. To abort calibration
select back.
Prerequisites:
– Adjustment is prepared.
– The zero-point has been adjusted.
– Specifically for all Polytron 8xx0 except the
Polytron 8100 EC:
The last valid zero adjustment was no longer than
24 hours ago.
Adjust the sensitivity as follows:
1. Select and confirm Calibration > Span calibration.
 The maintenance signal is transmitted via the analog
interface. No alarms or fault relays are triggered and
the
symbol is displayed.
 The parameters for the adjustment gas are displayed,
1)
e.g.:
Gas : H
S
2
Unit: ppm
Concentr.: 25
2. If the displayed parameters do not match the target gas,
adjust the parameters:
a. Select and confirm Gas.
b. Select and confirm the adjustment gas from the list.
c. Select and confirm Unit.
d. Select and confirm the unit of measurement from the
list.
e. Select and confirm Conc..
f. Set the concentration of the adjustment gas.
3. If the settings are correct:
a. Select and confirm Next.
 A message like Gas flow ON H
4. Apply adjustment gas.
a. Set the gas flow corresponding to the sensor used
(see "Gas flow for adjustments", page 22).
5. Select and confirm Next.
 The current value is displayed
After 15 minutes without confirmation, the instrument
returns to the adjustment menu without performing an
adjustment.
After the test gas has been applied to the sensor for
3 minutes and the displayed value is stable, perform
2)
adjustment.
:
6. Select and confirm Next.
 The message please wait... is displayed.
 The newly detected (current) value is displayed.
1) Not applicable for all sensors (see "Measuring mode", page 16).
2) For LC sensors, the test gas must be applied for at least 6 minutes.
Instructions for use
S is displayed.
