Both the latest edition and other languages of these
instructions for use can be downloaded in the Technical
Documentation database (www.draeger.com/ifu). Due to
product actualizations, Dräger recommends always using the
latest edition of the instructions for use.
1.1
Safety instructions
– Before using this product, carefully read these Instructions
for Use and those of the associated products.
– Strictly follow the instruction for use. The user must fully
understand and strictly observe the instructions. Use the
product only for the purposes and under the conditions
specified in this document.
– Do not dispose of the Instructions for Use. Ensure that
they are retained and appropriately used by the product
user.
– Only trained and competent users are permitted to use
this product.
– Notify Dräger in the event of any component fault or
failure.
– Comply with all local and national laws, rules, and
regulations associated with this product.
– Only trained and competent personnel are permitted to
inspect, repair and service the product as detailed in these
instructions for use. Further maintenance work that is not
detailed in these instructions for use must only be carried
out by Dräger or personnel qualified by Dräger.
– Dräger recommends a Dräger service contract for all
maintenance activities and that all repairs are carried out
by Dräger.
– Use only genuine Dräger spare parts and accessories.
Otherwise the proper functioning of the product may be
impaired.
– Maintenance must be performed as described, see
10 Maintenance.
– Only operate the product within the framework of a risk-
based alarm signaling concept.
– Before connecting this instrument to electrical devices not
mentioned in the IFU consult Dräger
– The instruments or components may not be modified in
any manner.
– The use of faulty or incomplete parts is forbidden.
– The appropriate regulations must be observed at all times
when carrying out repairs on these instruments or
components.
– Do not open the instrument during operation.
– The corresponding regulations must be observed when
carrying out repairs on these instruments or components.
– Follow the directions of EN 60079-29-2 for the
measurement of flammable gases and oxygen.
– Follow the directions of EN 45544-4 for the measurement
of toxic gases.

8100 EC-specific:
– WARNING: Risk of ignition of flammable or explosive
atmospheres! Substitution of components may impair
Intrinsic Safety.

Operating area and conditions
– For SIL applications, observe the Dräger Polytron
safety manual.
– Only applies for Polytron 8200 CAT:
If the device is exposed to a targeted flow of air that is
mixed with gas, the measured values may be elevated.
For deviating values, see the instructions for use provided
with the corresponding sensor.
– Observe the information and restrictions in the instructions
for use for the sensors used.
– CAUTION Risk of ignition of flammable or explosive
atmospheres! Not tested in oxygen enriched atmospheres
(>21% O
).

– Using the product in areas subject to explosion
hazards: Instruments or components for use in explosion-
hazard areas which have been tested and approved
according to national, European or international Explosion
Protection Regulations may only be used under the
conditions specified in the approval and with consideration
of the relevant legal regulations.
Hazardous areas classified by zones:
– The instrument is designed for use in Zone 1 or Zone 2
hazardous areas where gases of explosion groups IIA, IIB
or IIC and temperature class T4 or T6 may be present.
Temperature classes depend on the maximum ambient
temperature. The instrument must not be operated in
ambient temperatures outside of the temperature range
indicated on the instrument.
– The instrument is designed for use in Zone 21 or Zone 22
hazardous areas where dusts of explosion groups IIIA, IIIB
or IIIC and dust temperatures of T80 °C or T130 °C
(T135 °C for the Polytron 5100 EC and Polytron 8100 EC)
may be present. Dust temperatures depend on the
maximum ambient temperature. The instrument must not
be operated in ambient temperatures outside of the
temperature range indicated on the instrument.
Hazardous areas classified by divisions:
– The instrument is designed for use in Class I, Div. 1 or Div.
2 hazardous areas where gases of groups A, B, C or D
and temperature class T4 or T6 may be present.
Temperature classes depend on the maximum ambient
temperature. The instrument must not be operated in
ambient temperatures outside of the temperature range
indicated on the instrument.
– The instrument is designed for use in Class II, Div. 1 or
Div. 2 hazardous areas where dusts of groups E, F or G
may be present. The instrument must not be operated in
ambient temperatures outside of the temperature range
indicated on the instrument.
