2. Intended use
The MENZER single disc machine ESM 406 is
intended for use inside buildings for sanding or
oiling, waxing, levelling, scrubbing, polishing,
cleaning and shampooing water and abrasion
resistant hard floor coverings. Any other use of
the machine is considered improper use! The floor
surfaces to be treated must be even and must
not exceed a maximum gradient of 5%. Uneven
surfaces such as thresholds and steps must not be
driven over when working. The machine must not
be operated or parked outdoors, in damp rooms
and/or explosive environments. Do not use the
machine to clean frozen floors (e.g. in cold stores).
The operating temperature range is between
+5°C and +40°C. Sanding particularly hazardous
materials (e.g. lead-based paints and asbestos or
materials containing asbestos) is highly hazardous
to health and is not permitted with the machine.

accessories and spare parts. Only use grinding,
scrubbing, polishing and cleaning agents rec-
ommended by MENZER that are suitable for the
operation in order to achieve optimum working
results. This machine is suitable for commercial
and industrial use, e.g. by craftsmen or in hotels,
schools, hospitals, factories, shops, offices and
rental shops. For dust extraction we recommend
the MENZER industrial vacuum cleaners.
Attention! The operational safety of the
machine is only guaranteed if it is used as
intended in accordance with the information in
these operating instructions. Intended use also
includes correct compliance with the assembly,
operating, maintenance and cleaning instructions.
In case of improper use, the user is liable and the
warranty claim expires!

4. Safety information
4.1 General information
Caution! Please read all safety information and
instructions!
• Store the operating manual in a safe place.
• Only utilize the machine for its intended use. Any
work performed with the machine, for which it
was not designed, may result in damage to assets
and injury to personnel.
• Non-compliance with the instructions and other
information or compliance errors may result in
electrocution, fire and/or severe injuries.
• This machine must not be operated by persons
with physical/mental disabilities or physical per-
ception impairments or which are not familiar with
the use and handling of this machine type. Chil-
dren are not permitted to operate this machine!
• The use of this machine by adolescents within
the scope of professional technical training is per-
mitted. The stipulations set out in the Youth Work
Protection Act (JArbSchG) apply.
• Store the machine outside the reach of children.
• Children must maintain a safe distance while the
machine is in use.
• Do not permit an operation of the machine
by any person who has not read the operating
manual.
• Defective machines must only be repaired by a
MENZER Service workshop.
• Remain vigilant at all times and do not allow a
false sense of security to set in. Do not bypass any
of the safety guidelines for machines, even if you
feel you have mastered its operation after many
hours of practical use.
• Be attentive, concentrate on your work and use
common sense in all tasks involving an machine.
Do not operate a machine when you are fatigued
or are under the influence of drugs, alcohol or
prescription medication.
4.2 Machine-specific safety information
• The machine must only be connected to mains
sockets with a voltage and frequency that matches
the information provided on the type plate of the
machine.
• Make sure that all operating components are
functional before starting work.
• Press the handle down and bring the machine
into an inclined position (so that the attachment
is not engaged). Run the machine for around 1
minute before starting work.
• Never operate the machine if there is any visible
damage on the cable, housing parts or other
machine components.
• Maintain machines and attachment tools with
care. Ensure that all moving parts function
correctly and do not grate or show breaks or any
other damage, which could negatively impact the
function of the machine. Any damaged parts must
be repaired by a MENZER Service workshop before
use of the machine.
• Ensure that the machine cannot be accidentally
activated before connecting it to an electric mains
outlet to avoid accidents.
• Turn the main switch to the 0 position and dis-
connect the mains plug from the wall socket if the
machine switches off inadvertently. Please read
chapter 7 on error handling and troubleshooting
and/or contact MENZER Service.
• Always hold the machine with both hands to en-
sure that you have the machine fully under control
and damage is avoided.
• Remove all tools from the immediate vicinity of
the machine before activation (e.g. wrenches).
• Only hold the machine on the insulated grip are-
as to prevent any danger of electrocution, should
the machine damage hidden electric cables or its
own power cable.
