2. CAUSES AND PREVENTION OF KICKBACK
Kickback can occur when the tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the wood closes and pinches
the saw chain in the cut.
In some cases, contact with the tip can cause a sudden reverse reaction, causing the guide bar to lift and
recoil towards the operator.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar can push the guide bar rapidly back towards the
user.
Either of these reactions can cause you to lose control of the saw, which could result in serious personal
injury. Do not rely solely on the safety devices built into your chain saw. As a chain saw user, you must take
several steps to ensure that your cutting operations are free from accident or injury.
Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or improper operating procedures or conditions and can be
avoided by taking the proper precautions listed below:
- Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs and fingers around the chain saw handles, with both hands on the saw
and position the body and arm so that it can resist kickback forces. Kickback forces can be controlled by
the operator, if proper precautions are taken. Do not let go of the saw.
- Do not reach too far and do not cut above shoulder height. This helps to avoid unintentional contact with
the tip and allows better control of the saw in unexpected situations.
- Use only replacement guide bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect replacement bars
and chains can cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
- The cable must be positioned so that it does not get caught in branches and the like during cutting.
- It is recommended that the novice user, as a minimum practice, cut logs on a saw stand or cradle.
WARNING
The vibration emission during actual use of the power tool may differ from the total declared value
depending on how the tool is used.
WARNING
Suggestion to avoid the risk of vibrations:
1. Wear gloves during operation.
2. Limit the operating time and shorten the time of continuous use
3. HOW TO READ THE COLOURS
