Always sharpen the cutting links only with our forward strokes respecting the values indicated in the
picture.
After sharpening, the cutting links should all have the same width and length.
When your chain starts to produce sawdust, it is time to sharpen it.
After every 3-4 sharpenings, check the height of the depth gauges and, if necessary, lower them using the
optional flat file and jig, then round the front corner.
Correct adjustment of the depth gauge is as important as correct sharpening of the chain.
12. WHAT IS A LOW KICKBACK SAW CHAIN?
A low kickback saw chain is a chain that has met the kickback performance requirements of ISO 9518. By
keeping the chain brake and saw chain in good working condition and performing proper maintenance
as recommended in this manual, you can maintain the safety system of your chain saw for the life of the
product.
WARNING
Never remove, modify or disable any safety devices supplied with your unit. The chain brake/hand
guard and low kickback saw chain are the primary safety devices provided for your protection.
WARNING
Always wear heavy-duty protective work gloves and disconnect the extension cord when working
with the saw chain.
CHAIN TENSION
Check the chain tension frequently and adjust it as often as necessary to keep the chain tight to the guide
bar, but slack enough to be pulled by hand.
SHOOTING A NEW CHAIN
A new chain and bar will need to be readjusted after only 5 cuts. This is normal during the break-in period,
and the interval between future adjustments will begin to lengthen rapidly.
However, over time, the moving parts of the chainsaw chain will wear, resulting in what is called chain
stretch. This is normal. When it is no longer possible to obtain a correct chain tension setting, it will be
necessary to re-cut a link to shorten the chain.
