height.
! do not cut a log with a diameter greater than
(15 cm)
•
Bucking j
Bucking is cutting a log into lengths.
! make sure your footing is firm and your weight is
evenly distributed on both feet
! make sure that no objects can contact the guide
bar nose and chain during cutting
- make sure that the log is supported along its
entire length before you make a cut from the top
(overbucking)
k
- begin on the top side of the log with the bottom of the
saw against the log, exert light pressure downward
- note that the saw will tend to pull away from you
- engage the pruning saw bucking spikes against the log
whenever possible
- when bucking on a slope, always stand on the uphill
side of the log
- release the cutting pressure near the end of the cut
without relaxing the grip on the pruning saw handle
- do not allow the chain to contact the ground
•
Limbing l
Limbing is removing the branches from a fallen tree.
- when limbing, leave larger limbs to support the log off
the ground
- use the pruning saw to remove the small limbs in one
cut as illustrated
! be extremely cautious and avoid contacting the
log or other limbs with the tip of the guide bar to
avoid kickback
! the saw is not suitable for bottom-up cutting as its
kickback guard must not be lifted during operation
! never use it to cut the support branches under
tension
•
Pruning z
Pruning is trimming limbs from a live tree.
- position the saw at an angle of 60° or less, depending
on the specific situation
- remove long branches first
- cut lower branches first to allow the top branches more
room to fall
- work slowly, keeping both hands on the saw with a firm
grip. Maintain secure footing and balance
- keep the tree between you and the chain while pruning.
Cut from the side of the tree opposite the branch you
are cutting
! do not cut from a ladder. Leave such operations
for professionals.
! do not make a flush cut next to the main limb or
trunk until you have cut off much of limb to reduce
the weight.
! do not use the pruning saw for felling
! do not operate within 15m of overhead electrical
lines
! keep bystanders at least 15m away
