Fitting cross bars
Before fitting cross bars, thoroughly clean contact area surfaces
on roof railings and cross bars (see fig. 3) using a soft cloth and an
alcohol based cleaner e.g. glass cleanser (do not use soap or cleaners

The cross bars are marked on the underside with a sticker for front and
rear (arrows). The cross bars must be fitted so that the stickers are
always on the left side of the vehicle.
Position the cross bars on the roof railing as shown. Position the front
cross bar (on both sides) at distance A = 540 mm (21.26 inch) from the
front edge of the roof railing.
Position the rear cross bar at distance B = approx. 750 mm
(29.53 inch) from the front cross bar.
WARNING
Installing or using the cross bars improperly can cause the
cross bars and anything on them to fall off the vehicle causing
an accident and/or serious injury.
• These cross bars can be fitted without using tools. This
means you require no tools or other aids, nothing except
for the levers and caps present on the carrier to clamp the
carriers, these are shown in the fitting instructions. Do not
turn or adjust any bolts/screws.
• Always make sure that all levers and caps are completely
closed and that holders are fitted and tightened correctly
before every journey and at each break on a longer journey.
• All connections must be checked at shorter intervals when
travelling over poor road surfaces or hilly or mountainous
terrain, for example, at breaks when travelling on longer
journeys.
• Always properly install special fittings for bicycles, skis,
surfboards etc.
• Never use damaged, inadequately strong or unsuitable belts/
ropes or other securing devices to secure objects on the
cross bars.
Note
Insert key -2- and turn it through 90° anticlockwise (arrow A).
Open cover -1- (arrow B).
WARNING
The locking lever is under tension when closed! When opening,
only grasp the locking lever on the lower part of the handle and
guide it upwards - risk of injury!
Push the locking device -1- outwards (arrow A) and at the same
time open the locking lever -2- (arrow B).
WARNING
The markings must be observed when fitting the cross bars on
the railings.
