Use only the battery packs designed for the tool. Using any other type of battery may cause a fire. Use only the battery
pack recommended.
•
USE ONLY THE CHARGER PROVIDED WITH YOUR BATTERY PACK. Do not replace the original charger with any
other charger. Using a different charger could cause the batteries to explode, causing serious personal injury.
•
When carrying your battery-operated saw, make sure it is not running and your finger is not on the switch. Avoid starting
the saw accidentally.
•
FOR MAINTENANCE PURPOSES, USE ONLY THE MANUFACTURER'S ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT PARTS.
WARNING: Dust caused by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other building work may contain
compounds that may cause cancer, birth defects or infertility, for example:
• lead from lead-based paints,
• crystalline silica from bricks, cement and other masonry products,
• arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated timber.
The risks from these compounds depend on the type of work and the exposure to the compounds.
To reduce the risks, work in a well ventilated area and use approved safety equipment, such as dust masks designed
to filter out microscopic particles.
GLOSSARY OF WOODWORKING TERMS
Arbor
The shaft on which a blade or cutting tool is mounted.
Bevel Cut
A cut made with the blade at an angle other than 90° to the mitre table.
Blade Path
The area over, under, behind or in front of the blade. The line that will be, or has been, cut by the blade.
Compound Mitre Cut
A compound mitre cut is a mitre cut with a bevel.
Crosscut
A cut made across the grain of the workpiece.
Freehand
Cutting without using a fence, mitre gauge, fixing, clamp or other appropriate device to prevent the workpiece twisting or
moving during cutting.
Gum
A general term for non-volatile viscous wood secretions.
"Keep hands clear" zone
The area between the lines marked on the left and right-hand sides of the mitre table. This zone is identified by "Keep
hands clear" labels affixed inside the cutting lines on the mitre table.
Kickback
Sudden recoil of the workpiece being cut. Usually caused by the workpiece not being against the fence, hitting the blade
or accidentally pushed against the blade rather than sawing in a kerf in the workpiece.
Mitre Cut
A cut operation made at an angle other than 90° to the fence.
Resin
A sticky secretion from certain trees.
Revolutions per minute (rpm)
The number of revolutions made by a turning object in one minute.
Set
The distance by which the tip of the saw blade tooth is set outwards from the face of the blade. This increases the width of
the cut and allows the blade to move more freely in the wood.
Throat Plate
A plastic throat plate is provided for the mitre table with a zero clearance kerf to stop the workpiece tearing.
Through cut
A cut where the blade cuts completely through the thickness of the workpiece.
Workpiece
The item which is being cut. The surfaces of a workpiece are commonly referred to as faces, ends and edges.
