Troubleshooting
Error
The controller does not receive any
travel information.
The controller does not receive any
travel information at certain points
or an
incorrect position is output when
switched on.
Non-linearity is outside the
tolerance.
A position substantially larger than
null is output near the start of the
magnetic tape
or,
during movement, the position value
jumps from 8 m to 0 m.
LED lights up/flashes red.
During switch-on, the BML transmits
a position signal. After a short
movement, an error occurs (in the
plausibility check).
The direction of the 1Vpp signal and
absolute value do not match.

Possible causes
The required supply voltage is not
available.
The voltage drop in the supply line is
too large.
The sensor head is not properly
connected.
There is no IO-Link communication.
The distance between the sensor head
and magnetic tape is incorrect (in some
places).
Some of the magnetic poles of the
magnetic tape are damaged
(mechanically damaged or due to
strong magnets).
The sensor head is not moving parallel
to the magnetic tape (for tolerances see
Section 4.3.3 and Section 4.3.4).
The distance/angle between the sensor
head and magnetic tape is too large.
The measuring range was not set
correctly.
The sensor head function is disrupted
by incorrect installation or damage to
the magnetic tape.
The orientation of the magnetic tape is
incorrect, the working space is not
being maintained, or the magnetic tape
is damaged.
Check the controller configuration;
change if necessary.
Troubleshooting/explanation
Check if there is any voltage and that the
BML is correctly connected.
The magnetic encoder system must
receive a supply voltage of 18...30 V.
Check the pin assignment using the wiring
diagrams.
A flashing LED indicates active IO-Link
transmission. If this LED is not flashing,
check the connection.
Adjust the height/angle of the sensor
head. To check, move the sensor head by
hand over the entire measuring range.
Exchange the magnetic tape.
Correctly position/orient the sensor head
(see Section 4).
Move the sensor head to the beginning of
the area of travel and perform the start set
function there.
Check for the correct installation of the
sensor head and the magnetic tape.
Check if the direction of the arrow on the
magnetic tape and sensor head matches.
Check whether the sensor head is being
operated within the limits defined in
Section 4. Check magnetic tape for
mechanical or magnetic defects.
Check for the correct installation of the
sensor head and the magnetic tape.
Check if the direction of the arrow on the
magnetic tape and sensor head matches.
If necessary, change the controller
configuration or real-time signal count
direction by switching +A and –A or +B
and –B.
