Automatic cleaning: Automated cleaning is neither
necessary nor possible.
Disinfection: To disinfect the ophthalmoscope, wipe
it with a cloth that has been moistened with alcohol.
Maintenance: Remove and replace damaged parts.
If the instrument does not function properly, proceed
as follows: 1. Replace the batteries, test functionality
of instrument; 2. Replace the light bulb, test function-
ality of instrument; 3. Send the instrument in for re-
pair.
Inspection and operation test: Check to ensure
the smooth operation of all movable parts such as the
aperture selection and correction lens dials. Turn on the
instrument. Ensure that the head is properly connected
to the handle. For all instruments: visually check for
damage and wear. Keep all electrical contact parts
away from impurities.
Packaging: Individually in bags with zippers or Velcro
closures.
Sterilization: Not a surgical instrument, no steriliza-
tion necessary or possible

NiMH/Li-Ion Rechargeable Batteries
Purpose: The rechargeable batteries are to be used as
an energy source for the specified KaWe products.
Unsuited use/Contraindication of the prod-
ucts: Any use other than that described here is not in
accordance with the intended use of the unit. The
manufacturer is not liable for any resulting damages.
The user alone bears the risk.
Further instructions, Maintenance, Storage: If
necessary, the rechargeable batteries can be wiped
clean with a damp cloth and then dried with a dry
cloth. Avoid causing a short circuit.
The use of rechargeable batteries that are not explicitly
approved for these units may cause explosions or leak-
ages and the risk of fire, injuries and damage to sur-
roundings. Should a rechargeable battery begin to leak
and spilled substances come into contact with eyes,
mouth, skin or clothing, immediately rinse the affected
area with water and consult a doctor.

vance of these instructions may result in the batteries
quickly losing their full charging capacity.
With NiMH technology, a lazy battery effect can occur
that is analogous to the classic memory effect associ-
ated with NiCd technology. It is triggered by the energy
that has not been completely spent prior to recharging
the battery. This effect can be nearly eliminated by
completely discharging the battery from time to time
and then by recharging it two or three times, prefer-
ably in quick succession. Subsequently, the battery will
regain its full capacity. If the battery no longer provides
the amount of energy necessary for powering the unit,
immediately turn off the unit and charge the battery
(in order to prevent it from losing its charge complete-
ly, which would result in the destruction of the bat-
tery).
