7.5- Knives sharpening

Is one of the most important operation in machine maintaining to their performance so much
as knives and counterknives usefull life. The sharpening must be done to assure maintaining
the iron features.
Always use appropriate PPE for this
operation.
To make the change of knives or any other
maintenance on the rotor, the operator must
have the certificate of training of the JF
Máquinas or of the representative of the JF.
The tractor should be turned off, braked and
with the cardan disengaged from the power
take-off of the tractor.
The knives have cutting edges. Therefore,
the operator should wear gloves long handles
to minimize risk of cutting.
a) Open the rotor housing.
b) Lock the rotor using wood block avoiding it rotate
when remove the bolts.
c) Loose bolts (1) that fasten knives and remove them.
d) Remove the complete knives kit.
Sharpen each one on appropriate emery-stone,
avoiding excessive heating.
- Do not cool hot knifes with water. This can cause
surface wears.
- Do not sharpen all chamfered surface, but only the
cutting edge. Maintain the cutting angle.
1- Hold the knifes (1) on correct position
(inclination), according picture aside, to
maintain the cutting angle.
2- Its necessary to use glasses and gloves
to make the sharpening.
3- If the knives don't make possible more
sharpening or turning, replace the kit.
Never replace only one of the knifes.
