7. Expression

l Wash hands thoroughly (at least one min-
ute) with soap and water before touching
the breast, the clean pump and the clean
pump set parts. Dry your hands with a
fresh towel or a single-use paper towel.
l Contact the midwife or breast-feeding and
lactation consultant if only minimal or no
milk can be expressed or if expression is
painful.
Note
l Always disconnect the Symphony from the
power source after expression.

l Do not kink the tubing during expression.

7.6 Set comfort vacuum

Set the comfort vacuum by rotating
the vacuum adjustment knob. First
rotate to the right to increase the
vacuum until there is a slight discom-
fort. Then rotate to the left to reduce
the vacuum until it is comfortable.

Switch on the breast pump with
Proceed with the program selection
(see chapter 7.2). Operate the pump
as is appropriate for the selected
program (see chapters 7.3, 7.4 and
7.5).
