Planetary Mixer – Technical Assistance Manual
Procedure P001
MIXER GEARBOX - Reconditioning the oil and bearings pre-load seal on the planetary gear output shaft
Due to stress from the mixing arms (bending, impact), the conical rollers bearings which allow the spider to rotate
about its shaft can lose their assembly pre-load. This can cause an oil leak from the planetary gear box that is
sealed with 2 rubber gaskets (part. 14 TABLE 23). To restore the machine back to full efficiency, proceed as
follows:
1. Disassemble the spider (part.1 TABLE 9).
2. Empty the oil from planetary gearbox (part.3 TABLE 22) (v. User Manual).
3. Loosen the screws (part.11 TABLE 22) which hold the cover in place.
4. Remove the bearings register cover (part.8 TABLE 22) to reach the seat of the two oil seals.
5. Remove the old oil seals.
6. Using a lathe, reduce the thickness of the register cover on the slot surface by about 1 mm; Alternatively, insert
a suitable register shim (obtainable for sale) in the bearing seat found inside the cover.
7. Place two new oil seals in the seat of the register cover.
8. Using an emery cloth, polish the seal rings working surface of the planetary gear output shaft.
9. Apply a suitable sealing paste (ex. "motor seal") on the coupling flange between the planetary gearbox and its
cover.
10. Put the register cover back in place and check the planetary gear output shaft for proper stiffness.
11. Replenish the oil to its proper level; for type and quantity see the User Manual.
12. Reassemble and lock the spider into place with the nut (part.12 TABLE 23).
