Planetary Mixer – Technical Assistance Manual
Procedure P003
MIXER GEARBOX - Eliminating oil leakage between the fixed gearbox and the rotary planetary gear cover
Type A Intervention: Only for model P250
Presence of oil on top of the planetary gear cover can be due to oil leaking from the lubrication circuit
through the GNL seal rings (part. 1 and 2 TABLE 23). In this case it is necessary to close the oil supply
circuit by completely tightening screw part. 1 TABLE 20, in order to prevent the level of the gearbox oil
bath from decreasing to the point that it no longer lubricates sufficiently. The machine can still run in
these conditions. However, with the GNL seal compromised, dust can infiltrate the gearbox and form an
abrasive sludge. It is therefore recommended to plan a GNL restoration or a gearbox overhaul as soon
as possible by contacting the manufacturer.
Type B Intervention: For all models
Presence of oil on top of the planetary gear cover can be due to water infiltrating the planetary gearbox
through the GNL seal rings (part. 1-2 TABLE 23) applied to the cover itself as opposed to failure of the
fixed gearbox seals.
Having a higher specific weight than the oil, the penetrated water can raise the oil level causing the oil to
leak out.
To remedy such a problem, proceed as follows:
1. Empty the oil from planetary gearbox by way of the oil drain caps.
2. Put the drain caps back into place.
3. Refill the planetary gearbox several times with diesel or detergent oil, moving the planet gear to rinse
the internal components.
4. Replenish the oil using the type and quantity indicated in the User Manual.
If in addition to water, cement dust and other debris are found in the planetary gearbox, it is necessary
to open it and thoroughly clean the internal components in the following manner:
1. Loosen the screws (part.11 TABLE 22).
2. Loosen the spider nut (par.12 TABLE 23).
3. Extract the spider (part.1 TABLE 9).
4. Remove the oil seal holder register cover (part.8 TABLE 22).
5. Loosen the nut (part.10 TABLE 23) holding the planetary gearbox on the gearbox output shaft (part.1
TABLE 21).
6. Using an extractor placed in the relevant holes of the gearbox output shaft hub, extract the planetary
gearbox. Aid the process using 2 levers positioned between the gearbox and cover, on the narrowest
2 sides of the gearbox.
Do not attempt the extraction by exerting pressure on top of the planetary gearbox cover as the cover is
blocked by the fixed gear (part. 6 TABLE 23).
7. Thoroughly clean the internal parts of the planetary gearbox and relative containment casts.
