AirFlow S2
To treat the patient, you must adjust the air/powder flow rate as required for the
treatment. The flow rate can be adjusted progressively with the "Air" knob (16). Adjust
the air/powder mixture to "lowest", "low", "medium" or "high", depending on the
thickness of the deposit and sensitivity of the patient's teeth. The air supply regulates
the amount and speed of the AirFlow powder particles and, therefore, the cleaning
effect. The more air is supplied, the more air/powder mixture is sprayed out of the
AirFlow nozzle (20) with the water.
The AirFlow unit can be used for polishing by increasing the water to its highest setting
and reducing the air/powder mixture to its lowest setting.
Treating with the AirFlow unit of the AirFlow S2
®
Please note - Apply a small amount of Vaseline
to the patient's lips to prevent them
from drying and cracking.
Please use the high volume evacuator on your dental unit during treatment. Place the
saliva ejector in the patient's mouth so that it evacuates the space beneath the tongue.
Please use the high volume evacuator to extract the air/powder mixture which
rebounds from the tooth.
Danger - Never aim the AirFlow nozzle (20) directly at the gingiva during treatment.
The air/powder jet is too powerful for this purpose and may injure the gingiva. Always
work from the sulcus toward the incisal edge.
Hold the AirFlow nozzle (20) 3 - 5 mm from the tooth. The angle between the AirFlow
nozzle (20) and the tooth can be varied between 30 and 60 degrees. The more acute
the angle, the larger the surface which will be cleaned. Move the nozzle in small
circles. Only aim the AirFlow nozzle (20) at the enamel.
During the treatment, hold the high volume evacuator at the angle of reflection of the
air/powder mixture. The angle of reflection corresponds to the angle of incidence.
The AirFlow S2 and saliva ejector should always be operated by the same person.
This ensures that the ejector and AirFlow nozzle (20) are coordinated properly.
Finish the treatment by polishing the tooth surfaces again. To do so, set the "Air" knob
(16) as low as possible and the "Water" knob (15) as high as possible. Polishing
concludes the treatment with the AirFlow unit.
