AirFlow S2
Page E-15/E-24
Once the treatment has been completed, the patient should rinse his/her mouth with
water.
It is advisable to fluoridate the teeth after treating them with an AirFlow as they are
virtually free of mucin. It is important to use a neutral coloured fluoride.
Once the teeth have been polished, switch the unit off with the power switch (22).
When the unit is switched off, a stream of air automatically blasts the remaining
AirFlow powder completely out of the air channels of the AirFlow unit and AirFlow
handpiece.
Please note - In case of power failure, the air channels are also cleaned automatically.
Therefore, when interrupting your work always aim the AirFlow nozzle away from the
patient.
Disconnect the AirFlow handpiece and replace the AirFlow handpiece hose in the
AirFlow handpiece holder (17). The AirFlow unit can then be prepared for treating the
next patient.
Instructing patients
Danger - Warn your patients that they must not smoke, drink tea or coffee or consume
other foodstuffs which cause discolouration for 2 - 3 hours after undergoing treatment
with an AirFlow S2.
After being treated with an AirFlow, the teeth are absolutely clean and the dental
cuticle will have been removed completely. As the protein in the saliva needs 2 - 3
hours to recreate the dental cuticle, the teeth have no natural protection against
discolouration during this period.
Disinfecting, cleaning and sterilizing the AirFlow nozzle
and the AirFlow handpiece barrel
Always switch off the AirFlow S2 after treatment with the AirFlow unit. A jet of air
automatically blasts the remaining powder out of the air channels when the AirFlow S2
is switched off. This prevents the air/powder channels becoming blocked. The AirFlow
unit has completed its self-cleaning cycle when, once the AirFlow S2 has been
switched off, air leaks from the nozzle.
Always sterilize the AirFlow handpiece barrel (19) and the AirFlow nozzle (20) after
treatment.
Disinfect and clean the AirFlow handpiece barrel (19) and the AirFlow nozzle (20)
before sterilizing them. Rotate the coupled AirFlow handpiece one sixth of a turn
counter-clockwise and pull it off the AirFlow handpiece hose (18). Then turn the
AirFlow nozzle (20) one sixth of a turn counter-clockwise and pull it off the AirFlow
handpiece barrel (19). Disinfect the handpiece barrel (19) and the nozzle (20) with a
commercially available, colourless disinfectant. Then clean both pieces with a soft
cloth and finally dry the two bayonet catches. This prevents the air/powder channels
becoming blocked.
