3.9 Remote Control

INFORMATION
Advise your patients of the information in this section.
The C-Leg compact has two modes: The compact mode is intended for everyday use; in this mode, an additional
standing function can optionally be activated and deactivated with the remote control.
The therapy mode enlarges the field of application of the C-Leg compact and offers additional functionality for early
mobilization after amputation. This mode allows to permanently lock the knee joint in full extension. By pressing a but-
ton on the remote control, the joint can be unlocked, e.g. for sitting down.
INFORMATION
The mode can only be changed with C-Soft (from version 2.0); with previous versions this is not possible.
CAUTION
Improper switching between modes in C-Soft and use of the remote control. When switching between
modes in C-Soft as well as when using the remote control, the functionality of the joint changes. In certain situations,
this can cause the patient to fall.
When switching between modes in C-Soft as well as when using the remote control, the patient must always stand
securely. Then he should try carefully, whether the desired function has been activated.
CAUTION
Penetration of water in the remote control. The remote control is not waterproof. If water penetrates the remote
control, the device may become damaged (guaranty will become void). This can lead to malfunction of the remote
control, result in unexpected actions of the joint, and cause the patient to fall.
Should water have penetrated the remote control, dry the device for at least one day at room temperature. Before
starting to reuse the remote control, return it to an authorized Ottobock Service for inspection.
CAUTION
Manipulation on the remote control. Any changes or modifications you make to the remote control on your own
initiative can lead to malfunction and result in unexpected actions of the joint. This can cause the patient to fall.
Any changes or modifications to the device may limit its use.
INFORMATION
Important user instructions on the use of the remote control. Keep the C-Leg compact and the residual limb
still (no bending or extending!).
For safety purposes, the working range of the remote control is limited to approximately 70 cm. However, the remote
control will only function properly if held at least 30 cm away from the joint. If the activation / deactivation per remote
control was not performed, ensure that the remote control is placed between 30 and 70 cm of the C-Leg compact
and repeat the command. If you are still not successful, perform a pairing process (see Section 2.9.3).

3.9.1 Modes and Use of the Remote Control

Compact mode:
Upon delivery the knee joint is in the compact mode. If required, the joint can be locked or unlocked in the flexion direc-
tion at a flexion angle between 0° and 30° (standing function) with the remote control. For safety reasons, movement in
the extension direction is always possible; in full extension position the joint remains locked (locking function).
To activate the standing or locking function (Fig. 1):
Press the remote control button for 2 seconds (the joint emits 2 beep sounds at intervals of one second). Two long beep
sounds and two vibration signals follow to confirm the activation.
