Procedure:
1.
Mount the emptying tube onto the valve opening on the front of the Extraction
Unit.
2.
Place the tube in the vessel for recovered solvent, if possible lowering the tube
into the solvent. See Warning.
3.
Open the valve carefully and wait until the solvent stops dripping.
4.
Close the valve.
5.5.2 Changing Solvent
Warning
Always be careful when changing solvent. You should for exam-
ple check the ignition temperature of the new solvent used and
make sure that the temperature of the hot plate does not exceed
the ignition temperature.
Instructions:
1.
First empty the collection vessel as described.
2.
Run the system without samples and with a small amount (10-20 ml) of new sol-
vent in the cups. Run a short program at the recommended temperature with the
sample positioning rods in the rinse position for 10 minutes followed by recov-
ery for 15 minutes.
3.
Take out the cups and empty the vessel once more.
4.
Discard the recovered solvent, as it will be contaminated by the solvent previ-
ously used.
5.
Repeat if you find it necessary.
5.6 Cleaning of Accessories
5.6.1 Aluminium Cups
The aluminium cups can be cleaned in the dish washer provided that the cleaning de-
tergent is close to neutral pH.
5.6.2 Glass Thimbles
Cleaning of glass thimbles can be done by procedure 1 or 2.
1.
Soak with chromic acid * overnight. Wash with distilled water and dry in an
oven at 105 °C approx. one hour. Ash at 525 ±15 °C overnight, gradually heated.
Let crucible/thimble cool down in the furnace to about 250 °C before placing
them in a desiccator to reach ambient temperature.

Suck hydrochloric acid solution (15-20 %) through the crucible/thimble until no
residues remain. Wash with distilled water and dry in an oven at 105 °C approx.
one hour. Ash at 525 ±15 °C overnight, gradually heated. Let crucibles/thimbles
