Extraction of fat in Barley using Soxtec extraction systems
Sample preparation
Grind the sample by using a suitable mill, FOSS Analytical Cyclotec, with a screen that will give a particle size
less than 1 mm. Weigh 3 g of sample to an accuracy of ± 0.1 mg into a thimble.
Note! Pre-drying is not necessary if the moisture content is less than 10%.
Dry the thimbles with samples at 103 C for 2 hours. Let cool to room temperature in desiccator.
Extraction Procedure
Temperature setting is only recommended settings using aluminium cups and is dependent on room temperature,
water temperature, water flow rate, flow rate in the fume hood. Important is to achieve a drop rate of 3-5 drops
per second. Adjust the temperature accordingly.
