Note
The following figures (page 2, figs. 2&3 and page 3, fig. 1) show the procedure for the Audi A5 Cabriolet. The same
procedure is carried out for the Q5.
The sensor mounting holes -arrows- must be drilled in the positions marked on the inside of the bumper covering -1-.
Apply masking tape liberally in the areas where the holes are to be drilled in order to protect the bumper covering -1-.
Remove the bumper covering -1-.

Page 2 - figure 3
Inside the bumper covering are four cross-wire markings to permit mounting of the sensors. The drilling positions
are the centre points of these crosses.
Mark the drilling positions on the bumper covering using a centre-punch and drill using a 2 mm ∅ bit.
Use an ∅ 20 mm Forstner bit to drill the holes from the outside.
To prevent rotating of the sensors, an upward-pointing notch -arrow- about 1 mm deep is needed in the boreholes.
File an upward-pointing notch -arrow- with a small triangular file in all four boreholes.
Remove the swarf from the holes for the sensors in the bumper covering.
1.3 Fit sensors, connect and route the wiring harness in position
Page 3 - figure 1
Route the supplied sensor harness to the drilled -holes -1- to -4- in the bumper covering. Wire 1 must be plugged
into the right drilled hole -1- and the other wires 2 - 4 must then be connected sequentially.
Use the supplied socket cable ties -arrows- to secure the sensor harness to the lugs of the bumper covering.
Use a supplied socket cable tie -5- to secure the harness to the bumper covering.
Page 3 - figure 2
Note
The following steps can only be completed after the paint on the sensors is completely dry.
For reasons of clarity, the figure shows a dismantled sensor.
The pin -arrow- on the sensors -2- must engage in the notch filed into the bumper covering (see Page 2, fig. 3,
-arrow-). The correct position can be seen from the outside, using the markings in the outer ring of the sensors -
these must point upwards.
The plug -3- is designed such that it can only be plugged into the socket -1- on the sensor -2- in one position.
Clip the sensors -2- into the holes in the bumper covering.
Push the plugs -3- on to the sensor -2- sockets -1-. Push the covers -4- over the sensors.
Page 3 - figure 3
Remove the original grommet -arrow A- (A5) or -arrow B- (Q5).
Note
Depending on the vehicle fittings, instead of the grommet -arrow- a wiring grommet is already fitted and a wire is
already connected (e.g. for vehicles with trailer equipment). in this case, the grommet delivered with the sensor
wires must be removed and an additional borehole must be made in the existing grommet. The sensor wires will
then be pulled through this borehole into the interior.
Refit the bumper cover following the same sequence in reverse while at the same time pulling the wiring harness
into the vehicle and positioning the wiring grommet.
When using the existing grommet, seal the sensor wires to the grommet using a suitable sealant.
Route the sensor harness to the control unit of the parking distance control system (see page 5, fig. 3 or fig. 4).
Secure the harness with the supplied cable ties to the existing car wiring.
