Safety and operating instructions
Disassembly and assembly
cautions
Before starting disassembly, remove oil plug and
drain all oil out of oil reservoir.
Whenever pump is disassembled, clean out ball
bearings and clean old grease from all other parts.
Using recommended grease, repack bearings, fill
governor chamber in bottom of governor housing
three quarters full and coat all parts between
lower end plate and impeller.
NOTICE
Automotive water pump grease is
designed for use with hot water and is too hard
for use in pump operating in cold liquids.
If the shaft seals are replaced due to leakage, the
impeller sleeve must to be replaced as well.
When replacing the two shaft seals, it is important
that the soft face of the seals face toward the
impeller.
When assembling the motor check clearance
between faces of rotor and end plate and use shim
or shims as required securing 0.002 in. – 0.003
in. (0.05 – 0.08 mm) clearance.
When assembling motor into motor housing, the
upper end plate must protrude above the motor
housing between 0.001 in. and 0.003 in. (0.03
to 0.08 mm). I f not, add shims as required.
The governor body is fitted to the rotor by a
left-hand thread.
Troubleshooting
Loss of power and motor failure may be caused by
conditions outside the Pump. Check for:
Low air pressure at the Pump. 90 psi (6.2 bar) air
pressure is required at the Pump, with motor
running wide open.
Lowered compressor output.
Excessive drain on supply line.
Use of hose or connections of insufficient size.
If the above conditions are found to be in order,
check in sequence the following:
14
1)
Air strainer: remove, clean and replace.
Motor lubrication: Fill oil reservoir, disconnect
2)
hose and pour a small amount of
recommended oil in live air inlet. Check oil in
exhaust air as outlined, see oiler adjustment.
3)
Impeller: Grit may be lodged under impeller
or between impeller and wear ring, stalling
Pump.
To correct:
Raise pump just out of water permitting water
in discharge hose to flush back through pump
which may dislodge particles.
If still not working, disassemble and inspect
the pump. See section "Disassembly and
assembly cautions".
Icing: Icing in the exhaust chamber and pipe
4)
is caused by entry of moisture in the motor or
exhaust chamber. Check air inlet and exhaust
connections for water tightness. Be sure end
of exhaust pipe or hose is well above water.
Storage
Preparing the pump for
storage
>
After use it is important to flush out the pump
using a clean, neutral liquid. This is particularly
important if it has been used to pump acid, saline
liquids or other severely polluted or aggressive
liquids.
>
When the pump is to be stored for 24 hours or
more, the air motor should be lubricated to
protect it from corrosion.
>
Pour approximately 1 dl of anti-corrosion oil
directly into the air intake of the pump. Connect
the pump to the compressed air line, and run it
for a couple of seconds. It should be run at a very
low speed, in order to distribute the anti-corrosion
oil inside the air motor.
>
After lubricating with an anti-corrosion oil, the air
intake must be plugged.
>
When a pump that has been in storage is to be
put back to use, pour a little oil directly into the
air intake before starting the pump.
