5. Description of Interfaces

The UPS comes with a COM DB15 communication interface and a slot for inserting advan-
ced communication cards. These interfaces make it possible to transfer data using RS232
serial communications and to exchange interface signals, in addition to those which can be
added with advanced cards.
The interfaces may be used for:
· Direct communication between the UPS and the computer (PC)
· Connecting the UPS to a centrally controlled digital network system
· Transferring the operating statuses of external signalling systems.
The monitoring and control software and the communication cable are supplied with the UPS
UK
unit.
5.1 Standard COM DB15 interface
The Sub-D female 15-pin connector contains the RS232(RxD and TxD) signals, 4 output sig-
nals and 1 input signal.
The 4 interface signals are output signals with RS232 voltage levels.
The COM DB15 interface is galvanically isolated at the input and output.
- UPS mass in Pin 5
This connection represents 0V for the system and the point of reference for all signals.
- RXD in Pin 2 and TXD in Pin 3
Based on the standard configuration of an RS 232 interface. (1200 baud, no parity, 8 bits,
1 stop).
- SHUTDOWN in PIN 4
This input (Pin 4, high signal +5V.. +12V for at least 2.5 sec.) makes it possible to shut
down the UPS in an orderly fashion. The UPS restarts regardless of this signal within 2
minutes if the mains power is within the established tolerance limits.
- BATTERY LOW in Pin 1
This signal is active when the battery can only supply power to the load for approximately
2 minutes (Pre-alarm, configurable using the software)
- MAINS FAILURE in Pin 11
This signal is active when the power from the mains into the UPS disappears or when the
mains power falls outside of the established tolerance limits.
- UNIT ON en Pin 13
This signal is active when the UPS is supplying output energy.
- BYPASS ON en Pin 6
This signal is active when the UPS is operating in BYPASS mode.
