Apply a 6-mm hexagon-socket (Allen) wrench to the shaft
(9). Hold the wrench firmly and press the shaft inwards as
shown in the illustration provided on the balancer. Rotate
the wrench in the "-" direction until the elastic cable stop
buffer (5) moves a little away from the housing, then remove
I
the wrench from the shaft.
Never slacken the spring beyond the point of com-
plete unloading because such action would destroy
the spring!
Unscrew the housing cover and the cable drum cover, then
remove the spring assembly from the drum.
The damaged spring is now replaced by a new one.
The replacement spring must first be greased before instal-
ling it in the cable drum. The manufacturer recommends
using either "Glissando VW 745" or "Renolit SO-WB" as a
grease.
If a spring of a different strength is used, the type and load
range details must be changed accordingly on the rating
F
plate.
(B) Reassembly:
Insert the new spring into the cable drum, proceeding as
follows:
The external end (suspension lug) of the spring must point
to the left and must engage with the slot provided in the
drum. The internal suspension lug must engage with the
groove of the shaft in such a way that the spring functions
perfectly; if necessary, turn the shaft so as to allow the inter-
nal lug to glide into the groove of the shaft.
Subsequently, screw the cable drum cover in place, thereby
pulling the pawl (safety detent) of the spring fracture safegu-
ard (models 7228...03–05) slightly inwards. Put the interme-
diate ring (spacer) in place on the shaft, then reinstall the
housing cover.
I
For spring preloading, see "Adjusting the Working Load".
Replaced spring assemblies must be properly dispo-
I
sed of in accordance with pertinent regulations!
CAUTION: Springs will bounce up when the banda-
ges or rivets are removed! Danger of injury!

Replacing the Housing
The "Housing complete" spare parts kit includes the hou-
sing with cover, 4 screws, the rating plate and the installed
anti-crash safety device.
F
(C) Dismantling:
The housing must be partially dismantled in the same man-
F
ner as described in the spring replacement procedure (see
[A]).
Remove the housing cover.
Remove the complete "Cable drum" assembly including
spring and shaft from the housing. Unwind the cable, then
disengage and remove it from the cable drum.
F
Remove the housing from its suspension.
(D) Assembly
Attach the suspension to the new housing.
From outside, pull the cable through the mouth of the hou-
sing and install the cable end securely in the cable drum.
Install the complete "Cable drum" assembly including
spring and shaft in the housing. Wind up the cable by rota-
ting the drum.
To complete the installation, follow the procedure already
described for spring replacement (see
Replacing the Cable Drum
The "Cable drum complete" spare parts kit consists of the
cable drum with cover, 4 screws and the spring fracture
safeguard (models 7228...03–05).
Disassemble the balancer in the same manner as described
under "Replacing the Spring" (see
Reassembly is again carried out in the same way as descri-
bed under "Replacing the Spring" (see
Replacing the Suspension
The "Suspension complete" spare parts kit includes the
screw-type spring hook and the bolt. Remove the hook from
the bolt, then remove the bolt from the housing. Install a
new bolt and a new screw-type spring hook.
