Option 3: Steam Sterilization/Autoclave:
Prepare for Sterilization:
1. Visual Inspection:
• Visually inspect the Skull Clamp components for cleanliness.
• Ensure all components are free of organic debris and are in proper working order. If
damage is observed on any components, the MAYFIELD 2 component should be returned
immediately to the Integra Service and Repair Center for servicing. (Please refer to the
Maintenance and Servicing Section.)
2. Wrap Components for Sterilization:
• Ensure the components are completely dry prior to wrapping for sterilization.
Components may be dried with a clean, soft towel or cloth.
• Individually wrap each component to be sterilized, (partially disassemble per the above
disassembly instructions for cleaning) and swivel adapter or Tri-Star adapter using an
approved sterilization wrap appropriate for a steam sterilization/ moist heat sterilization
method.
Sterilization:
1. Use one of the below described sterilization cycle parameters. Place pre-wrapped components
in a validated steam sterilizer. (Reference Table 7)
2. Follow the sterilizer manufacturer's instructions for loading and unloading the devices and
operating the sterilizer.
Note: Equipment cycles may vary due to sterilizer size and maximum load capacity. To ensure sterilization,
use the sterilizer manufacturer recommendations in regards to maximum capacity to validate individual
equipment cycles.
Avoid overcrowding on sterilizer shelves/ racks and heavy loads. Reference the sterilizer manufacturer
instructions for the proper use while operating the sterilizer.
Prolonged exposure time may affect product life. Carefully inspect for any visible damage or malfunction
after sterilization.
Ensure device has properly cooled prior to removing from the sterilizer. Follow the sterilizer and
established procedures when operating the equipment.
