5.3. Pre-charging of the bladder

Before commissioning, the pre-charge pressure of the bladder accumulator must be checked and filled if
necessary.
Freudenberg offers filling and testing devices in various designs. With these a safe test and if necessary a change
of the gas pre-charge pressure is possible. A detailed description of the procedure is included in the operating
instructions of the respective device.
The most important steps in charging a bladder accumulators are:
Ensure system-side pressure relief.
Remove the outer protective cap and the inner valve cap at the bladder accumulators gas port.
Assembly of the filling and testing device on the gas valve body of the bladder accumulator.
(Detailed procedure can be found in the operating manual of the filling device)
Connect the nitrogen line to the gas inlet of the filling and testing device.
(Detailed procedure can be found in the operating manual of the filling device)
DANGER:
Bladder accumulators must only be filled with Class 4.0 nitrogen (N2-Vol.%> 99.9).
WARNING: The pressure set on the pressure reducing valve must not exceed the max. permissible
operating pressure of the accumulator.
Carefully open the shut-off valve of the nitrogen line in a way that at the beginning the pre-charge pressure
of the accumulator increases very slowly in order to let the bubble adapt with the inner wall of the vessel.
Fill the bladder with continuous monitoring of the pressure gauge until the required pre-charge pressure is
reached.
Close the shut-off valve of the nitrogen line.
Wait until there is no detectable pressure drop due to the gas
temperature compensation.
Check the actual pre-charge pressure. If necessary, refill/drain nitrogen
and correct the pre-charge up to its nominal value.
Disassembly of the filling and testing device from the gas valve body of
the bladder accumulator.
(Detailed procedure can be found in the operating manual of the filling device)
Check for nitrogen leakage at the gas valve.
Screw on and tighten the valve cap.
Mount the protective cap on the gas connection of the accumulator.
