year. Enraf-Nonius recommends that all serv-
ice work be performed by the distributor.
However, a service manual can be obtained
by writing the company for those who are
qualified to service the device and are fully
aware of their responsibilities.
Caution :
Use of controls, adjustments or procedures other
than those specified herein may result in hazardous
exposure to shortwave energy.
Installation
Good air circulation is essential to prevent internal
heat build-up.
• Do not install the unit in a location near heat
sources such as radiators or air ducts, and pre-
vent exposure to direct sunlight.
• The unit should be installed in such a way, that
it's warmth can be passed on to the surroun-dings.
Don't cover the ventilation openings.
• Furthermore, it is recommended that the Cura-
puls 670 should not be used after extreme
temperature fluctuations.
• We advise against using wireless telephones in
the vicinity of the unit.
• When moving or transporting the unit, never pull
at the electrodes or the electrode arm, to avoid
the risk of tilting the Curapuls 670.
• For safety reasons, the brakes on the wheels of
the unit should be locked before the beginning
of a treatment.
• The Curapuls 670 is not intended for use in so-
called "wet rooms" (hydrotherapy rooms).
Should any liquid or foreign object fall into the
cabinet, turn off the power, unplug the unit and
have it checked by your nearest authorized
service dealer before any further operation.
Connection
The Curapuls 670 is a class I, type BF apparatus
according to IEC 60601-1. This means that the
Curapuls 670 must be connected to a grounded
power supply. Use only the power cable supplied
with the apparatus.
Prior to connection to the mains, check that the volt-
age and frequency stated on the Curapuls 670 cor-
respond with the available power supply rating.
Check that the available power supply complies with
local requirements regarding medical rooms (elec-
trical codes).

REMARKS CONCERNING TREATMENT
General
We strongly advise that you regularly consult the
therapy manual "Pulsed short wave therapy with the
Curapuls 670". The chapters regarding indications
and contra-indications are especially important with
respect to safe and effective treatment.
Also pay attention to the following:
• From considerations of safety, only original,
undamaged electrode cables and electrodes
should be used.
• Electronic hearing-aids must be taken off if
damage or malfunctions are to be avoided.
• Patients under treatment must not be able to touch
surrounding metal objects such as metal furniture,
radiators or window-frames.
• Patients with a reduced thermal sensibility in the
area to be treated need special caution. Only
very low dosage and very short sessions are
recommended.
• Take special notice of the patient's sensations and
check the objective reactions (e.g. on the skin).
• It is strongly advised against treatment of locally
anaesthetized areas.
• The patient must be in sight of the therapist at all
times.
Furniture and clothing
Metal parts in furniture might cause intensity con-
centrations in the high-frequency field. Therefore only
use metal-free wooden furniture.
For all treatments with shortwave it is advisable to
undress the patient, and to apply a towel between
the skin and the electrode (against perspiration and
to avoid them making contact). There are two ad-
vantages in treating patients this way: firstly to en-
sure no metal objects are in the high-frequency field
(metal parts in the clothing or in ornaments under
the clothing), secondly to prevent undesired con-
centrations of energy due to perspiration or for ex-
ample the wearing of nylon or leather clothing.
Implanted electronic devices
It is not allowed to treat a patient with an implanted
electronic device (for example a cardiac pacemaker)
with shortwave equipment; they are not even allowed
in the vicinity of an operating shortwave unit.
Implanted metals
Metal concentrates high-frequency energy. To pre-
vent any undesirable concentrations around a metal
implant and the resulting dangers (burns), short-wave
therapy with a thermal effect should basically not be
used.
