Connecting the interconnecting cable to the
wirefeeder
On the TotalArc² 4000 / 5000 power sources, the wirefeeder
must be linked to the power source by means of the intercon-
necting cable. TotalArc² 3000 users can skip both this section
and the next section, and carry on reading in the section headed
"Mounting / connecting the gas cylinder".
- Shift the mains switch
- If the optional wirefeeder fixture has been mounted: Slot the
wirefeeder into place on the pin of the wirefeeder fixture
Warning! If the optional wirefeeder fixture is not being
used, position the wirefeeder in such a way that it cannot
topple over!
- If the optional wirefeeder fixture has not been mounted:
Place the wirefeeder on top of the power source
- Insert the strain-relief device into the opening provided on
the wirefeeder, and fix it in place
N.B.! Where the strain-relief device is subjected to heavy
loads, it must be screwed to the wirefeeder. For 1.5 m long
interconnecting cables, no strain-relief device is provided.
- Plug the gas hose of the interconnecting cable to the
"Shielding-gas" socket
- Plug the water forward-flow and return-flow hoses of the
interconnecting cable to the connectors
and black-to-black, and tighten with the swivel nut
- Plug the remote-control socket of the interconnecting cable
to the remote-control data-transmission plug
tightly with the swivel nut
- Plug the "Welding potential" socket of the interconnecting
cable to plug
and turn it to latch it
N.B.! When mounting the cables and hoses of the interconnect-
ing cable, these should be carefully coiled up out of the way in
order to prevent accidents and wear-and-tear.

Mounting / connecting the gas cylinder
- place the gas cylinder onto the floor of the trolley
- fix the gas cylinder in place with safety tape
into the "O" position
and tighten with the swivel nut.
and , red-to-red
and fasten it
N.B.! The cylinder will only be optimally fixed in the upper part
of the cylinder (not at the neck)
- Remove the protective cap from the gas cylinder
Warning! Before opening the gas-cylinder valve, make
sure that the outlet opening is not pointing at anybody.
- Give the gas-cylinder valve a brief turn to the left (anti-
clockwise) to blow off any dirt from around the valve
- Check the seal on the pressure regulator
- Screw the pressure regulator onto the gas cylinder and
tighten it
- Attach the "Shielding gas" connection of the interconnecting
cable (on the TotalArc² 4000 / 5000) to the pressure regula-
tor, or (on the TotalArc² 3000 power source) attach shielding
gas connection
to the pressure regulator by means of the
gas hose
Installing the welding torch
N.B.! It is only possible to use water-cooled welding torches
with an external water connection.
- Shift the mains switch
- Check that the torch is correctly tooled up. Insert it - infeed
tube first - into the central torch connector
- Tighten the swivel nut by hand to fix the torch in place
- Plug the control plug of the welding torch onto the torch
control connection
- Connect up the welding torch hoses for water forward and
return flow, as per the colour markings, to plug-type connec-
tors
and
on the wirefeeder (TotalArc² 4000 / 5000) or -
in the case of the TotalArc² 3000 - to plug-type connectors

Starting up the cooling unit
N.B.! Check the volume and quality of coolant water before
starting to use the unit. The cooling unit is factory-filled with
approx. 2l of coolant (mixing ratio 1:1) before dispatch.
- Shift the mains switch
- Remove the screw cap
- Top up with coolant (mixing ratio as per following table)
- Screw the cap
back on again
N.B.! Only use clean tap water. The electrical conductivity of all
other antifreeze agents makes them unsuitable for use here.
Warning! As Castolin has no influence on factors such
as the quality, purity and filling-level of the coolant, no
warranty is given for the coolant pump.
