USING THE CHAIN SAW IN THE TREE
In the vast majority of accidents, operators fail to adopt a secure work position that
allows them to hold both handles of the saw.
SECURING THE WORK POSITION FOR TWO-HANDED USE
• In order to allow the saw to be held with both hands, as a general rule operators should aim for a
secure work position in which they operate the saw at hip level, when cutting horizontal sections,
and solar plexus level, when cutting vertical sections.
• Where the operator is working close into vertical stems with low lateral forces on the work position, then a good footing could be all
that is needed to maintain a secure work position. However, as operators move away from the stem, they will need to take steps to
remove or counteract the increasing lateral forces by, for example, a redirect of the main line via a supplementary anchor point or
use an adjustable strop direct from the harness to a supplementary anchor point (see Figure C)
• Gaining a good footing at the working position can be assisted by the use of a temporary foot stirrup created from an endless sling
(see Figure D)
STARTING THE SAW IN THE TREE
When starting the saw in the tree, the operator should following particulars.
a) Apply the chain brake before starting.
b) Hold the saw on either the left or right of the body when starting,
1. On the left side, hold the saw with the left hand on the front handle and thrust the saw away from the body while holding the
pull starter cord in the right hand, or
2. On the right side, hold the saw with the right hand on either handle and thrust the saw away from the body while holding the
pull starter cord in the left hand.
c) The chain brake should always be engaged before lowering a running saw onto its strop.
d) Operators should always check that the saw has sufficient fuel before undertaking critical cuts.
UTILIZZO DELLA MOTOSEGA ALL'INTERNO DELL'ALBERO
Nella maggior parte degli infortuni gli operatori non sono in grado di assumere una posizione di lavoro sicura, che
consenta loro di mantenere l'impugnatura della sega con due mani.
MESSA IN SICUREZZA DELLA POSIZIONE DI LAVORO PER UTILIZZO A DUE MANI
• Per consentire di tenere la motosega con entrambe le mani, di norma gli operatori dovrebbero puntare ad acquisire una posizione
di lavoro sicura, che consenta loro di tenere la sega a livello dell'anca quando tagliano orizzontalmente e a livello del plesso solare
quando tagliano sezioni verticali.
• Quando l'operatore lavora vicino lungo tratti verticali, dove le forze laterali sulla sua posizione di lavoro sono ridotte, una buona
presa può essere sufficiente a mantenere una posizione di lavoro sicura.
Tuttavia man mano che gli operatori si allontanano dal fusto, avranno bisogno di intervenire per impedire o contrastare l'aumento
delle forze laterali, ad esempio ridirigendo la via centrale tramite un punto di ancoraggio supplementare o l'utilizzo di un gancio
regolabile direttamente dall'imbragatura a un punto di ancoraggio aggiuntivo (vedi Figura C).
• Durante l'attività lavorativa assicurarsi di avere una buona stabilità, eventualmente utilizzando anche unsupporto provvisorio per il
piede, ad esempio una staffa (vedi Figura D).
POSIZIONAMENTO DELLA SEGA NELL'ALBERO
Quando si inizia a segare l'albero, l'operatore deve attenersi a talune indicazioni.
a) Applicare il freno della catena prima di iniziare.
b) Quando si inizia, tenere la sega sul lato sinistro o sul lato destro del corpo.
1. Sul lato sinistro, tenere la sega con la mano sinistra sull'impugnatura anteriore e spingere la sega distante dal corpo,
tenendo con la mano destra il filo dello starter.
2. Sul lato destro tenere la sega con la mano destra da una delle due impugnature e spingere la sega distante dal corpo,
tenendo con la mano sinistra il filo dello starter.
c) Il freno della catena deve sempre essere impegnato prima di abbassare la sega in movimento sul suo gancio.
d) Prima di affrontare un taglio critico, gli operatori devono verificare regolarmente che la motosega disponga di una quantità di
carburante sufficiente.
