9. Safety notes
9.1. General
Electric fences shall be installed, operated and maintained in a manner that minimises
danger to persons, animals and their surroundings. Insofar as these regulations are
supplementary to the valid official national regulations and are not in contradiction to
them, they shall be observed for the installation and operation of electric fences.
9.2. Instructions for Assembly and Installation of Electric Fence Energisers and
Fences
Electric fences that may lead to the entanglement of animals or persons shall be
avoided.
Only one electric fence energiser may be connected to the electric fence. If more than
one fence is connected to the fence energiser, the voltage may only be supplied
through one circuit.
Avoid touching electric fences especially with the head, neck or body. Do not climb over
or crawl through or under electric fences. Always use gates or specially installed
crossing points.
A minimum distance of 2.5 metres must be kept between two electric fences as well as
their fence and connecting wires which are fed with voltage by two different fence
energisers. If the section between these two electric fences is to be closed as part of a
fencing system, materials shall be used that are not electrically conductive when
touched.
Barbed wire may not be used for electric fences.
If a non-electrified barbed wire fence is to be reinforced additionally by one or more
electrified wires, these must be installed stably and well insulated according to
regulations at the side of the fence line. A minimum vertical distance of 150 mm must
be kept from the non-electrified barbed wire. The barbed wire must be earthed at
regular distances.
The manufacturer's instructions for earthing the fence energiser must be followed
