exactly.
A distance of at least 10 m shall be maintained between the energiser earth electrodes
and any other earthing systems of power transmission cables or telecommunication
systems.
Connecting leads of electric fences that are run inside buildings shall be effectively
insulated from the earthed structural parts of the building. Adequate insulation can be
achieved by using insulated high voltage cables.
Connecting leads that are run underground shall be run in conduits which ensure
adequate high voltage insulation or high voltage earth cables shall be used. Leads and
cables must be laid in such a way that they cannot be damaged by the effects of animal
hooves or tractor wheels sinking into the ground.
Cables and leads for fence energisers may not be installed in the same conduit as the
mains supply wiring and telephone and data communication cables.
Connecting leads of fence energisers or electric fence wires shall NOT cross above
overhead power or data communication cables. The installation of electric fences under
overhead power cables shall also be avoided. If crossing of these leads is unavoidable,
the electric fence wire must always be under the overhead power cable and shall cross
at right angles to it.
Electric fence wires installed overhead must always maintain the prescribed minimum
distance from overhead power cables. A distance of at least 3 metres must be
maintained for a rated voltage of the overhead supply cable of 1,000 V. A distance of at
least 4 m must be maintained for overhead cables between 1,000 and 33,000 volts and
at least 8 m for cables above 33,000 volts.
Electric fence wires installed overhead may NOT exceed a height of more than
3 metres above the ground near to overhead power cables. If the voltage of the
overhead supply cable is max. 1000 V, this limitation concerns electric fence wires that
run closer than 2 m to the outer conductor of the overhead power cable measured
vertically to the ground. For overhead power cables above 1000 V this regulation
applies up to a distance of 15 m from the outer edge of the overhead cable measured
horizontally to the ground.
Electric fences for deterring birds, household pet containment or training animals such
as cows need only be supplied from low output energisers to obtain satisfactory and
safe performance.
For electric fences intended for deterring birds from roosting, the earth pole of the fence
energiser should not be connected. Warning signs shall be posted to every point where
persons could touch the fence wires.
Where an electric fence for animals crosses a public pathway, a non-electrified gate
shall be incorporated in this part of the fence or a crossing by means of a stile shall be
provided. Warning signs shall be posted on the electric fence at such places.
Where electric fences run adjacent to public paths or roads, warning signs must be
posted at regular intervals along the fence on solid fence posts or on the fence wires.
The warning signs must measure at least 100 mm x 200 mm. The warning sign must
have a yellow background on both sides. Inscriptions such as "CAUTION ELECTRIC
FENCE" and symbols must be printed in black on the warning sign.
The inscription shall be indelible on both sides of the warning sign and be at least
25 mm high.
All mains operated appliances connected to an electric fence must be insulated
