Freewheel device (Fig. 6):
Turn the lever on the back of each motor outwards so that each drive wheel is in freewheel position and will turn
freely. If you wish to push the wheelchair with the motors off, you should follow this procedure with both wheels.
When the levers are turned inwards, the drive wheel will automatically connect with the propulsion mechanism.
Follow this procedure with both wheels.
2. Batteries:
24 V (2x12 V) / 50 Amph., maintenance-free
Dimensions: 197 x 165 x 170 mm
Capacity at the discharge time 34 Ah/5 h
Connector: 3 pin "Cannon" type
Charger: 24 VDC 8 Amph
Charging batteries: Charger Specification: Only use chargers for cyclic batteries, Gel-Type with 24V/8A output
nominal max. To charge batteries, connect the charger to the control and then to the 220V50Hz mains. For more
information about it's operation consult the instructions provided with the charger. If the charger is not connected
to the control it does not provide charge current. It is possible that the charger's metallic box may slightly raise
its temperature due to use.
General care of batteries:
Avoid heavy discharge of the batteries. If you continue driving until the chair is virtually immobile, you will have
reduced the useful life of the batteries.
The batteries should never be left uncharged. A battery that remains uncharged for two weeks loses a certain
capacity that cannot be recovered later.
The batteries should always be charged completely. The charging process should not be interrupted.
Your batteries should be charged only by means of the charger supplied with the wheelchair. The battery needs
a "running-in" period over six/twelve charges; and will not attain to its maximum range until the end of this
period. It is better to limit the use of the wheelchair and the length of your trips until the batteries have been
totally "run in".
It is advisable to charge batteries every day, after using the wheelchair.
Range: Batteries give the chair a range of approximately 25 kilometres. This depends on the weight of the user
and the terrain.
Do not leave the batteries exposed to environmental conditions such as rain, humidity, high temperatures or
fire.
Check the conditions of the batteries and their connections to prevent possible dangers e.g. leaks.
Safety guidelines for charging
The charger is designed for indoor use only. Do not use outdoors or expose to rain, snow, spray or moisture.
Suitable temperature for charging the batteries: -10°C up to +40°C.
The use of an accessory that has not been sold by Sunrise Medical, or that does not have Sunrise Medical's
approval, may result in the risk of fire, electrocution, or personal injury.
Make sure the cable is laid out in such manner that it cannot be stepped on, that it cannot be tripped over, and
that it is not exposed to damage or stress.
Extension cables should not be used unless there is no alternative. The use of the wrong extension cable
could cause fire or electrocution. If an extension cable must be used, make sure the pins of its plug are equal
in number, size, and shape to those of the charger plug, that the cable is correctly connected.
Do not use the charger if it has received a hard knock, been dropped, or if it has been otherwise damaged.
Take it to a qualified technician.
Do not disassemble the charger. For repair it should always be handed over to the manufacturer. The wrong
installation could lead to fire or electrocution.
Never place the charger directly on top of the battery being charged.
Never leave the charger on a rug or soft surface. Always place it on a hard surface.
Due to an electronic circuit of the charger, the batteries can be permanently connected without any harm.
