4.3. Decalcifying the heating coil

Lime deposits in the water system can cause the following
problems:
n increased pipe-run resistances,
n reduced efficiency of heat exchangers,
n total failure of calcified components,
n high-pressure pumps take in air because insufficient
water flows into the float tank for hot water.
In order to protect the environment as well as conform with
legal requirements, only tested and approved de-scaling
agents should be used (de-scaling acid with approval
certificate). The high-pressure system should be decalcified
with a Kärcher de-scaling agent (see Chapter G:
"Accessories").

Danger!
Only persons who have received instruction from Kärcher
on the correct procedure should decalcify this system.
Danger of explosion due to flammable gases. Do not smoke
while decalcifying the system, and ensure that there is
adequate ventilation.
Chemical burns hazard due to acids. Wear protective
goggles and gloves.
Decalcifying is carried out as follows:
n Screw off handgun and lay hose over waste-water
manhole so that the water can flow away.
n Clean float tank for brush receptacles.
n Set hot-water temperature to 40 °C.
n Turn off water supply.
n Run system in hot-water mode until float tank for brush
receptacles is almost empty.
n Pour 0.5 L of decalcifying agent into the float tank for
brush receptacles.
n Open water supply tap until float tank fills up again.
n Switch system on for a short period, and allow
decalcifying agent to soak in. Repeat this procedure
every 4–5 minutes until float tank for brush receptacles is
almost empty.
n Turn on water supply, and flush system for 5 minutes in
hot-water mode. This is prevent any potential damage
due to any residual decalcifying agent.
n Re-connect handguns to high-pressure hoses.
