After 15 minutes of inactivity within the menu, the instrument
times-out and returns to normal operation without accepting
any changes. At the 14 minute interval, the three unit icons
start to flash.
The instrument is designed for the magnetic wand (part
number 4544101: blue body, white logo) to be used with the
enclosure lid in place. If the enclosure lid is not in place, the
magnetic wand may activate two or more buttons at once
(cross-talk).
Menu tree
For better navigation within the menu, a menu tree is included
at the end of this manual.
8.3.1 Menu navigation
Button Function
Scrolls upwards.
Sets values.
Scrolls downwards.
M
Sets values.
Confirms entry.
OK
Selects menus and functions.
8.3.2 Password
The use of a password is optional. A password consists of a
4-digit number from 0000 to 9999. A value of 0000 disables
the password protection and allows anyone to access the
menu.
Polytron 57x0 (IR)-specific
If the PIR LOCK of the PIR 7x00 is activated it supersedes the
password.
To change passwords, see 12.5.
8.3.3 Entering the menu
● If the password is disabled
a. Tap [DOWN] and scroll to the desired menu item.
● If the password is enabled
a. Tap [DOWN]
The 4-digit LCD will then show '0000', with the first
zero on the left flashing.
b. Tap [UP] / [DOWN] to increment or decrement this
digit, then tap [OK].
The second digit will flash.
c. Repeat the process for the other digits and tap [OK]
If an incorrect password is entered, the instrument
will return to normal operation.
8.3.4 Changing parameter values / status
1. Select the desired menu item and tap [OK]
The current value or status will flash to indicate a
change to data entry mode.
2. [UP] / [DOWN] allow adjusting the value of a numerical
parameter or scrolling through preset choices.

3. Once the display shows the intended value or choice, tap
[OK] to validate the new parameter and return to the main
menu.
8.3.5 Exiting the menu
● To get back into the measurement mode, tap [UP] until the
menu is exited.
8.3.6 Displaying the firmware version
● To display the current Firmware function, scroll to VERS.
The display toggles between VERS and the current
firmware version.

Calibration
A calibration checks and adjusts the measurement accuracy
with a known test gas concentration. First the zero point of the
sensor and then the sensor span is calibrated. Calibrations
have to be performed on a regular basis. The length of
calibration intervals depends on the ambient conditions in
which the sensor is operated.
Ambient conditions and aging cause sensor drifts. Sensor
drifts have a negative impact on the measurement accuracy.
Calibrations restore this accuracy. Depending on the severity
of the drift shorter calibration intervals have to be established.
To evaluate the ambient conditions of a new installations,
shorter calibration intervals with documentation of the drift
should be established. The plant operator should establish
customized calibration intervals with the obtained data.
Under normal conditions, Dräger recommends the following
1)
calibration intervals
:
– Electrochemical sensors (EC): 6-12 months
– Catalytic sensors (CAT): 4 months
– Infrared sensors (IR): 6-24 months

Calibrations can be performed at the sensor itself. This
procedure is described in the instructions for use of the DSIR.
To calibrate at the DSIR, the menu function CAL - at - DSIR
is used. While in the menu, the Polytron 5000 acts as a
display device for the DSIR.
Messages during calibration
The following display messages can appear during zero and
span calibration.
