Configuring the Full Scale Deflection, or range, of the
instrument. These are pre-configured, discrete values,
corresponding to the 20 mA output.
1. Select FSD - set
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
2. Tap [OK]
 The value flashes (data entry mode)
3. Tap [UP] / [DOWN] to set the desired value.
● In some gas unit configurations there might be only
one value selectable. Then [UP] / [DOWN] will not
change the value.
● If the symbols for over range or under range are
displayed, the entered value is not valid. Use [UP] /
[DOWN] to set a correct value.
4. Confirm with [OK].
The value is set and the instrument returns to the menu.

14.2.1 Changing the Gas Category

Depending on the target gas, a gas category has to be set for
the DSIR. For an overview of tested gases and vapors with
the corresponding gas category, see the instructions for use
of the DSIR (9023981) or the technical manual for Polytron
8000 (9033848).
The DSIR offers 3 gas categories that are displayed with LEL
values.
Gas category
methane
propane
ethylene
Prerequisites
– The device was started less than an hour ago. If
necessary, cycle power.
– The zero calibration was less than an hour ago.
– The gas concentration measured by the device is below
10 %LEL. If necessary, expose to zero gas.
Change gas category:
1. Select Set-GAS-CAt
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
2. Tap [OK]
3. Select the gas category at the DSIR using
on the sensor surface.
4. Place the magnetic wand on [S] for 10 seconds.
 The transmitter display shows 80%

5. Remove the magnetic wand
 The displays shows the LEL value corresponding to
the current gas category.
 Within the next 30 seconds the gas category can be
changed.
6. Tap [S] to select the desired gas category and wait 30
seconds
 The displays shows the LEL value corresponding to
the selected gas category.
 After 30 seconds the new gas category is set.
7. Check span calibration.

14.2.2 Sensor type

This function defines the sensor type installed.
1. Select SNR-SET-dd/LC/DSIR
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
2. Tap [OK]
 The value flashes (data entry mode)
3. Tap [UP]/[DOWN] to scroll through the sensor types.

4. Select the sensor type and confirm with [OK].
 The value is set and the instrument returns to the
menu.
5. Exit the menu.
 Info - 301 is displayed to indicate the warm-up phase.
 Err - 112 is displayed. Perform zero calibration.
 Err - 113 is displayed. Perform span calibration.
With firmware versions ≤ 1.5.0 of the instrument, the display
text DQ is not implemented.
To install a DQ sensor, select DD.

14.3.1 Setting LEL type

Selecting a different LEL type will convert the A1 and A2
alarm level set points from internal units of ppm to equivalent
values in display units, using the new LEL factor and the
existing units of gas measurement.
LEL types
The LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) is an empirically determined
value for the gas concentration where an ignition could
happen. These values vary amongst the different authorities.
E.g. 100 %LEL for Methane is 5 Vol% according to NIOSH,
and 4.4 Vol% according to IEC and PTB.
Procedure:
1. Select LEL - type
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
