• Pay attention to breeding birds in the hedge. If so, put off
hedge trimming or leave this area out.
• The maximal diameter to cut depends on the wood's type,
age, moisture and hardness.
Therefore cut very thick branches using branch shears
to your desired length before trimming the hedge.
• Due to its double sided knives the hedge trimmer can be
guided forward and backward or by oscillating movements
from one to another side.
• At first cut the sides of the hedge and then the upper edge.
• Cut the hedge from the bottom up.
Cut the hedge in trapezium shape.
• Stretch a guide over the complete length of the hedge when
you want to shorten the upper edge of the hedge evenly.
• Trim in several passes if you have to cut down a large
portion of the hedge.

Kickback - backstroke
What is saw backstroke? Saw backstroke is the sudden strike
upwards or backwards of the running power pruner in direction
of the operator.
This happens when
− the guide bar tip gets in contact with the sawing material
(unintended) or other hard objects.
− the saw chain is jammed at the guide bar tip.
The power pruner reacts uncontrolled and frequently causes
heavy injuries of the operator.
How to avoid saw backstroke?
Always hold the power pruner firmly with both hands.
• Start cutting only with running saw chain.
• For better control saw with the lower edge of the guide bar.
Place the power pruner as horizontally as possible when
contacting wood.
• Never saw with the guide bar tip.
• Sawing with the upper guide bar edge may cause a saw
backstroke if the saw gets jammed or hits a hard object in
the wood.
• Always work with a sharp and stretched saw chain.
General conduct when pruning
Keep bystanders away. The safety distance is 2.5-
times the length of the branch to be cut, but at least 15 m.
• Keep a safety distance of 10 m to overhead power lines.
• Plan an escape route from falling branches in advance. This
escape route must be free from obstacles to ensure
retreating without danger.
• Position yourself outside the range of falling branches.

• Do not cut thin branches or bosks. The power pruner is not
suitable for those works.
• Cut larger branches into several sections to avoid splintering
and breaking.

• Do not cut any branches where their diameter is greater
than the cutting length of the device.
• Do not stand directly underneath a branch to be cut.
• Watch out especially for falling branches.
• Also look out for branches snapping back.
Always wear a helmet in order to protect yourself against
perches falling down.
Step cut
For horizontal branches without being top heavy
The branch section falls down in a controlled manner without
tipping over.
Set the first cut from below, approx. one third of the
branch diameter.
The second cut is made on the same level as the first cut
or moved further toward the inside (negative breaking
step).
Remove the remaining branch section.
Step cut error!
If the cut is made offset toward the outside (positive
breaking step) and exceeded, the power pruner can be pulled
along.

Before each maintenance and cleaning work
− Stop the engine.
− Wait until the cutting device does not longer
move.
− Remove the spark plug connector.
− Wear protective gloves in order to avoid injury
to the hands.
− Do not carry out maintenance work close to
open flames. Risk of fire.
Improper maintenance or any failure to eliminate
faults before starting can cause operating trouble which
can result in serious injuries and damages to the machine.
Maintenance and repair work other than those described in this
chapter is only allowed to be carried out by service staff.
For maintaining and cleaning, removed security devices must
unconditionally be mounted properly and proved again.
Only use genuine spare parts. Other than genuine parts may
result in unpredictable damages and injury.

The cutting tool will not come to a standstill immediately after
cut-off. Before starting any service work wait until all parts are
stationary.
To guarantee a long and reliable usage of the product carry out
the following maintainance works regularly.
Check the device for obvious defects such as
− loose fastening elements
