The test for the D value produced a result
of 12,0 kN, which typically represents a
towed load of 2500 kg and a permissible
total weight of 2390 kg. However, it is the
information contained in the vehicle regi-
stration document/logbook that is decisive.
The D value as tested, that is to say the
supporting load, may not be exceeded.
The towbar is intended to be used for pul-
ling trailers fitted with towing ball couplings
and for operation with load carriers that are
approved for mounting on coupling balls.
Any other use is not permitted.
All such operation must be adjusted to
match road conditions.

Mounting Instructions

The standard mounting points as approved
by the vehicle manufacturer have been ob-
served.
All applicable regulations in both EU and
non-EU countries are to be complied with.
These installation and operating instructi-
ons are to be kept with the vehicle's docu-
ments.
Electrical system
The socket mounting is designed for the
optional attachment of a 13 pole socket.

use the spacer plate with longer screws.

Operating with a trailer has the effect of res-

tricting the driving properties of the tractor

vehicle and for this reason increased vigi-
lance is required on the part of the driver.
Operating with a trailer makes increased
demands on the cooling system. Any en-
quiries concerning modifications that prove
to be necessary to the cooling system must
be directed to the supplier's workshops.

found in the guide entitled "Operation with
Trailers".
IMPORTANT!
The towbar is a safety component and may
only be fitted by trained personnel. If spare
parts are needed, these may only be fitted
by trained personnel to undamaged original
parts. Exchanges or replacements of com-
ponents may only be carried out by an ac-
credited VW or Audi workshop.
Unauthorised modifications to the towbar
are forbidden and will result in the operating
permit being revoked.

The fitting instructions for towbars in the re-
pair manual (ELSA) must be strictly ad-
hered to!
Together with all mounting components,
the towbar weighs 18,2 kg. Please make
sure that after fitting the towbar, the empty
weight of your vehicle is increased by this
amount.
Keep the ball clean. If stabilisers are used
or cycle carriers are attached to the ball
please ensure the following: the ball should
be free of grease and the coating removed
(use fine sandpaper with 300 grain - do not
use a steel brush or similar).
From time to time, the diameter of the ball
head must be checked. If a diameter of
less than 49 mm is measured at any point,
all use of the towbar must be discontinued
for safety reasons.
NOTE:
In the areas of contact between the towbar
and the vehicle, all underseal, cavity fillings
(wax) and insulating material must be re-
moved. In the same way, all drill chips
must be removed and untreated parts of
the bodywork (e.g. drill holes) must be tre-
ated with anti-corrosion paint.
