- mounting new brake drum shoes in all repair stages.
ATTENTION: The service brake and the parking
brake can only be adjusted together and they must
be cold.
12.1 Procedure to adjust drum brake shoes:
- Lift the vehicle off the ground.
- Loosen the flexible cable controls of the parking
brake.
- Remove the rubber grommet located behind the
brake plate, as shown in the figure on the right, to
gain access to the adjustment gear.
- Using a screwdriver or other similar tool, turn the
adjustment gear, thus making the drum shoes get
closer and reducing the space that was created by
the wear on the braking gaskets (lining).
- While carrying out the operation described above,
turn the brake drum and when
the braking gasket begins
sliding against the drum, back
off the adjustment gear until
the sliding noise is no longer
heard.
- With the lever of the parking
brake in the resting position,
put the flexible cable controls
of the brake under tension
making sure not to change the
diameter of the brake obtained
with the adjustment.
- Place the vehicle with the
wheels back on the ground.
- The operation described
above must be carried out on
all brakes of this type that are installed on the vehicle.
NOTE: Be very careful when using the brake the
first time because until the brake shoes have been
broken in, the brakes will not be efficient and thus
the braking action will be longer.
12.2 Procedure to replace drum brake shoes:
- Lift the vehicle off the ground.
- Disassemble the wheel rim and the brake drum.
- Release the 3 springs that keep the shoes in po-
sition (first the 2 converging ones releasing them
from the top).
- Remove the worn shoes, replace them with new
ones, turn the adjustment wheel until reaching the
start of the stroke.
- Replace the brake drum and tighten the relative
connection bolts, applying a torque as indicated in
paragraph 9..3.
- To adjust see paragraph 12.1
12.3 Procedure to replace disk brake pads:
- Use a screwdriver or similar tool to pry between
the disk and the pad to make the piston of the brake
clamp retract up to the start of the stroke.
Carry out this operation first on one side and then on
the other for both pistons.
- Use a pin remover and hammer to remove one of
the two pins "A" from its seat (see fig. 10), remove
the two wire springs "B", then remove the other pin.
- With a mechanical clamp pull out the two worn
pads, use compressed air to clean away any dust
from the pad seats in the brake clamp, then insert
the new pads.
- Mount one of the pins "A" in its seat, place the two
wire springs "B" in their position, put them under ten-
sion, then mount the
other pin in its seat.
- Activate the brake a
few times to re-posi-
tion the pistons of the
brake clamp with the
new pads.
- Brake a few times
to check if bleeding is
required.
- The operation de-
Tappo in gomma
scribed above must
be carried out on all
brakes of this type
that are installed on
the vehicle.
NOTE: Be very careful
when using the brake
the first time because
until the pads have been broken in, the brakes will not
be efficient and thus the braking action will be longer.
12.4 Procedure to replace multi-disc brake discs
"Brevini Power Transmission S.p.A." prohibits this
operation to be performed on its units, therefore if
braking action becomes inefficient, contact a Brevini
Service Center as listed on page ??.
