Description
The Symmetry Surgical MAGRINA-BOOKWALTER
Pelvic Retractor Kit is a self-retaining retraction
system. The Kit is available in two configurations.
Catalog no. 50-4692 (Figure 1) includes a segmented
pelvic ring, while catalog no. 50-4693 contains
a non-segmented pelvic ring. All components of
the kit are fabricated of stainless steel. The pelvic
retractor kit contains the following instruments, each
available separately:

Indications
The pelvic retractor kit is designed for retraction in
vaginal surgery.
WARNING
The retractor system can exert a great amount of
force on the wound edges and on tissues. Release
the retractor for short periods of time or shift the
blades to relieve the pressure on any one point.

If the table is to be tilted toward the side holding
the post, it is important to place adequate padding
between the table post and the patient. Pressure
necrosis or a nerve palsy could result if the patient is
pressed against the unpadded bar for a long period.
Precautions
If using monopolar electrosurgical equipment
while using the Symmetry Surgical MAGRINA-
BOOKWALTER Pelvic Retractor Kit, consult the
basic rules of usage concerning electrosurgery
(see EN 60 601-2-2), as well as the manufacturer's
instructions for use regarding specific warnings
and conditions.
Be sure to electrically isolate the patient from (high
frequency leakage currents to) the operating table,
in accordance with the instructions provided by the
manufacturer of the electrosurgical equipment.
Ensure that the patient does not come into contact
with metal parts that are earthed or that have an
appreciable capacitance to earth (for example:
operating table, supports), in accordance with the
instructions provided by the manufacturer of the
electrosurgical equipment.
Avoid small-area contacts with objects having a
low impedance to earth at high frequencies, as
unwanted burns can result.
Inspection
Inspect each instrument before and after use
to detect imperfections. Do not use damaged
instruments; send them for repair or replacement.
Instructions for Use
Attachment of the Table Post
Pull out the recessed lever located at the top of the
table post (Figures 2 and 3), and fully open the rail
clamp by turning the lever in a counterclockwise
direction. Attach the clamp over the drapes on the
draped side rail; the table post will be parallel to the
floor (Figure 4). Retighten the clamp to secure the
post by turning the lever in a clockwise direction.
