Operate the instrument
3.1
Switch on the instrument
1 Ensure that the power switch is in position O (I indicates on, O indicates off) before connecting the power
cable. The power switch is located at the lower left corner on the rear side of the MACSQuant® Tyto® Cell
Figure 1.2 ).

2 Connect the power cable to the power socket on the rear panel of the instrument ( Figure 1.2 ).
3 Plug in the power cable to a grounded power outlet. WARNING! The instrument is equipped with a three-
wire electrical grounding-type plug. This is a safety feature to reduce the risk of electric shock. Do not insert
the plug into a non-grounded power outlet. If you cannot insert the plug into the outlet or if you are not
sure whether the outlet is grounded, contact your local electrician. The instrument should only be operated
from a power source indicated on the product's electrical ratings label. If you have questions about the type
of power source to use, contact your authorized Miltenyi Biotec service provider or local power company.
Ensure that the power switch as well as the connector for the power cable is easily accessible and located as
close to the operator of the instrument as possible. In case of danger disconnect the device from the main
supply.
4 Switch on the MACSQuant Tyto Cell Sorter by using the power switch on the rear side of the instrument. The
instrument will be in stand-by mode. A red LED on the orange touchscreen indicates that the instrument is
in stand-by mode.
5 Tap the orange touchscreen monitor to power up the instrument.

3.2
Switch off the instrument
Before switching off the instrument shut down the software. Refer to the MACSQuantify™ Tyto® Software User
manual for an introduction to the user interface.
1 Click the Shutdown button at the upper right corner of the software interface. The MACSQuantify Tyto
Software will go into stand-by mode and all processes on the instrument will shut down.
2 Click on the Windows icon to shut down the software.
3 Switch off the instrument with the power switch at the rear side of the instrument ( Figure 1.2 ).
When the software is in stand-by mode, the instrument can be reactivated by touching the touchscreen.
